funny how Crisis On Infinite Earths is our reality now - algorithmic culture making everyone live in infinite contradictory parallel Earths crashing together, the only path forward being unification into a coherent new Earth

Yeah, I was looking for a Silver Age Legion collection yesterday and good luck with that across titles and different volumes. (I did somehow manage to find it though?)

Marvel is just as bad, my pet peeve is that facsimile editions are listed as separate titles by issue! 🤬

Yeah, I’m there with you. I think you get Trimpe’s power with Severin’s inks maybe sanding down some of the rough edges without compromising things
jregan.bsky.social
I haven’t really revisited those yet—got some of those kinda scatter-shot as we did back in the day.

I *think* I like Trimpe’s work better with a tighter (if that’s the right word) inker than some of his slightly later work. Your thoughts?

GenAI truly was the worst technology to come along at this moment.

An energy and water guzzler when we most urgently need to take climate action.

A disinformation machine as our journalism fails.

A bias machine as fascism takes root.

A job killer in a cost of living crisis.

The "cognitive decline and brain damage from repeat COVID infections" and "easy to use robot that makes slop and melts your critical thinking skills" is a hell of a combo in a post-fact media ecosystem

I love me a record company promotional inner sleeve but this one with a Jerry Stiller & Anne Meara comedy record between Led Zeppelin IV and Exile on Main Street is 👨‍🍳💋🤌
LP inner sleeve with various LPs from the Atlantic/Atco/Cotillion/Asylum stable of artists including Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, CSN&Y, Yes, and oddly enough, utter classics from Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones framing a Stiller & Meara comedy album

Today’s pickups courtesy of the Atomic Records pop-up: 2 comps, one with Milw. bands, one of post-punk NYC scenesters, taking a flyer on the Garland Jeffreys LP, and have seen “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang” referenced a few times recently so felt like stumbling on a copy was kismet
Four LP covers—Garland Jeffreys’ self-titled; Start Swimming compilation featuring the Bongos, Raybeats, The dBs, Bush Tetras, and Fleshtones; Badger-a-go-go including a host of late ‘80s Milwaukee bands; and Heaven 17 Back cover of the Heaven 17 LP with “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang” opening Side Two

Seeing early performances by Christopher Walken and Jeff Goldblum (both verrrrry much in precursors to what they’re known for) was an added bonus, Sigourney Weaver is there too but you really have to look hard

Watching ANNIE HALL (1977) and thinking while the events of the movie unfold, Television or the Talking Heads are playing at CBGB, totally different worlds separated by a few miles

29 (I’m including DC!) plus two asterisk cases: AK (drove through, did stop for gas), NH (*think* I was there as a youngster but not sure)

My big gaps are the Plains, Mountain, and Southwest states and oddly enough, northern New England (lived in NJ for almost 30 years)

👍 I’d say the Detroit book is the strongest of the 3 as it deals with the break-up of the Supremes, John Sinclair and the Yippies, along with the riots. The Harlem book is relatively the weakest maybe because the music aspects of the books aren’t as focused or centralized as in the other two cities

Really too many to list but I’m a sucker for anything on music scenes/cities/communities and anything NYC art & music scene-wise in the 20th century so hmu if you’re looking for something in that vein

Absolutely loved this book (maybe you put it on my radar before?) It would be a huge task but I’d love to see someone try to make an anthology TV series (non-linear?) based on it.
