Watched REDS again last night, and man, what a film, what a story, what a cast. In its day it was overshadowed by Chariots of Fire and I think other historical epics like Lawrence of Arabia get more attention but REDS is right up there, I tell you what. Fantastic.
Cool to see this; I also have loved it since seeing it in high school when the fantastic music was much more important to me than the inscrutable narrative. Was hoping I’d see some positive feedback on the new version.

found exactly the one use of “evil recoils in the presence of Christ” I am willing to sign off on, HOOOOOOOOLY SHIT

Father Larry did not come here to fuck around
Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”
Yeah, nice essay here, highlighting the subtle but important way Sam Rockwell’s performance is so different from most other twin/double-roles from Dead Ringers to Sinners.
Jen passed thru the room, noticed clips of Moon and insisted we need to watch it again soon. Don’t need to twist my arm!
A kind and thoughtful video essay about MOON from Ken. Sharing it for those who might be interested, and because it occurred to me that more people have watched this wonderful essay than probably got to see the film when it was at the cinema! 😅

Nice, will absolutely devour any Moon commentary I can find.
Also I distinctly remember seeing both Moon and District 9 in theaters like a month apart and reveling in the feeling of a new golden age of spec-fic.
Super excited to see (and hear) this in IMAX; glad you enjoyed it so much (and loved the callback to Roger's stance on the original). As a musician with different names for different expressions of my work, however, will nitpick your credit of the score to Reznor/Ross instead of NIN. Great read tho.

FREDDIE: So Eddie, I’m putting together a playlist for the Audubon event.

EDDIE: Who’s on it?

FREDDIE: I got Geese.

EDDIE: Goose?

FREDDIE: No, Geese.

EDDIE: More than one?

FREDDIE: It’s just the one. Geese.

EDDIE: I’m saying. Geese is more than Goose.

META JOKE I get it now, good one. 😆
Absolutely, every word. @artemiswinter.bsky.social probably remembers the cast party, but didn’t come to the movie, as I recall.
Oh man that sounds like a good time… I saw Jacob’s Ladder at a midnight showing after a high school cast party (following our final performance of You Can’t Take It With You) and to call it foundational to my philosophies of both cinema and life would not be overstating it. Still have the poster.
Maybe you-know-who’s gamer bro fanboys are revisiting it one more time before dumping Netflix???
We were there! I hope I make it on camera... I'm the white guy. 🤞
Me: What’cha got there, River?

River: Nothiiiinnggg….

Update: still thinking about the cinematography of the last sequence in this film. Haunted, if you will. 🚗🚓🚕
One Battle After Another…. Damn, I say DAAAMNN! Really something else. INCREDIBLE that that film is coming out right now.
