Ultimately, my guess is Farage is hoodwinking Yanks with a lot of cash to spare - but Reformish types on the elite right tend to wishcast that their supporters will come along with a lot of things they believe in just because they alight on immigration.

Somewhat sweeping generalisation, but it will be hard to build a political force in Britain that is both conservatively Christian (or indeed, conservatively religious) and strongly anti-migration.

Suspect the question is less about deradicalising the most entrenched, but limiting how infectious they are.

Yes, I think for example his compassion in the approach to mental asylums when Health Secretary makes it more striking when he didn't use it.

I bang on about this a lot: I think the combination of a global pandemic, underregulated internet/SM, collapse/corruption of trustworthy media, plus now unregulated genAI, is a wildly toxic environment for radicalisation & mental health. We see the results of that in our politics & lives every day

Everyone knows at least one person (normally, but not exclusively, a guy) whose gone properly mental due to net rabbit holes.

We see public figures regularly go mad and destroy themselves.

Not sure whether it was resentment or shame. Certainly on Desert Island Discs he talks of his regret of not dying in the war. He also had a loony moment when India became free and his ambition to be viceroy was dashed.

Think this tells you more about commentary than politics. At the point this was said, the rise in immigration, Johnson scandals and inflation were all at least foreseeable if not knowable.

Which is why the intelligent question now is "Will Labour's policy platform work?"

Watkins was one of the most vile criminals I have ever read about, an offender whose depravity fell to lows even this hardened ex-prosecutor had not seen before. I am however uncomfortable with the celebrations of his murder. /1
