Great piece here on the upside down world of Kimlau square - despite overwhelming percentage of use by pedestrians (many, Chinatown's elderly residents), most of the space is given to cars. We need more than one "village" in NYC. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/10/22/c...
Chinatown Plaza Redesign A Good First Step, But City Must Go Bigger - Streetsblog New York City
Almost everyone walks through Kimlau Square – even though most of the space is for cars.

In Queens's 19th Council District, we endorse Ben Chou, a NYC firefighter challenging Vickie Paladino. He supports completing the district's greenways, expanding hardened daylighting, adding a Bayside ferry route, and increasing LIRR service. More about Ben here: www.streetspac.org/2025_nyc_gen...
See the DOT Vision Zero Data here showing worthy reductions in such fatalities, but clearly showing that cars remain the greatest threat. www.nyc.gov/html/dot/htm....
I believe in Vision Zero so any death involving bicycles and MOre ImpoRTanTLY cars is one too many. And, when compared to deaths involving motor vehicles, one can only wonder why we don't have speed controls on ALL CARS in and out of our city. @nyc.streetsblog.org @streetspac.org
The referenced article goes on to say: "the rate of cyclist fatalities and serious injuries as a share of all bike trips has been trending downward for many years, suggesting that riding a bicycle in New York City has become safer over the long term." A pretty important bit of context for readers.
According to the article the speed limit for e-bikes is a "reasonable move" because... E-bikes have been responsible for an increase in cyclist deaths in recent years." The writer then links to another NYT article that shows DOT data for cycling fatalities. www.nytimes.com/2024/03/05/n...

Important reporting here on clash with Ice on Canal Street. To local residents/observers (I am one) this conflict was inevitable. Hopeful our new Mayor (all in for Zoron) will act to transform Canal Street for the better of NYC and its residents. @transalt.org nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/10/22/w...
Wednesday's Headlines: When ICE Came to Canal Street - Streetsblog New York City
Federal agents swarmed all over the blocks around our office on Tuesday, so we went outside and covered it. Plus other news.

Clever plan to give the money to Argentina and then loan it back to us in the form of crypto currency. Everybody wins.
@npr.org I think your framing of "advocates divided" on free buses is misleading. Free buses may not be a top priority - but all advocates for free bus rides also support increased funding, frequency and reliability. This is why we have congestion pricing! apple.news/Af_hj0kkoR8m...
Should the bus be free? Transit advocates are divided — NPR
“Free buses” is one of the big ideas that helped Zohran Mamdani win the Democratic mayoral primary in New York City. But the track record in cities that have stopped collecting fares is mixed.

I hope that "untethered to the facts" will be the epitaph of the MAGA political era

Best combination of a terrible headline and a great article I've seen in a while. Click-bait put to a good use.

This is true and agreed. Also requires recognition and planning - for example, convert some car-traffic lanes to scooters. The car overlords leave us with so little room to effectively navigate our precious urban space.

There is exactly one way to rapidly cut pollution at scale, save money both at the govt and household level, and do it without federal help.

The best fastest thing to do on climate is to just make cities safer for walking and biking. That's it.

Every climate person should be working on this.
City Hall: Experts at King’s College London estimated that, from when the Mayor came into office in 2016, without additional action it would take 193 years for London to meet legal limits. It has been achieved in nine years.
