In the months leading up to Milwaukee landing what became the Bucks, they had an unlikely champion: Ben Kerner.

Ben Kerner was the chairman of the NBA's expansion committee. He also owned the Hawks, who played in Milwaukee from 1951-1955.

The Hawks were a losing team and once the Braves came to Milwaukee, they took any shine away from Kerner's Hawks. The Hawks moved to St. Louis when they were forced out of Milwaukee Arena.

Here's Kerner on trying to sell the Hawks over in Milwaukee.

The face of a man who was ready to go out for a high-leverage inning if it was needed tonight.
Thank you for your service, Chad Patrick.
Trading for Dave Cowens was an incredibly polarizing move at the time as the Bcuks tried to get over the hump during the 80s. The irony is that the Bucks swept the Celtics during the '83 Playoffs, but Cowens had gotten hurt during the last game of the season.
October 10, 1982: Dave Cowens makes his Milwaukee Bucks debut in an NBA Preseason game at Phoenix.

The 33-year-old Cowens—who'd been retired for two full NBA seasons—scored 4 PTS and grabbed 2 REB in 17 minutes. The Suns' Walter Davis scored 16 PTS in a 117-114 victory.

I've never related more to LeBron before.
Lakers star LeBron James is sidelined for at least 3 to 4 weeks due to sciatica on his right side. He is out for the start of the 2025-26 NBA season.

While doing some house cleaning today, I found the original timeline for what ended up being my book. A lot of nights trying to put all of the pieces together and maybe biting off more than I can chew. And more importantly, getting through down times (job changes, general depression, etc.)
I had never written anything to this kind of scope before and writing itself is already a solitary pursuit. But there is a rush that comes with trying to solve something that you see in your head. And then you hope people reading will understand what drew you to this work in the first place.

Madison, WI — 179 years ago today

Delegates gather for the first state Constitutional Convention. After months, they draft a constitution including voting rights for immigrants, white women & Black men, but the exclusively white men who vote on it block its ratification 59%-41%.
A page of a very old book that reads “JOURNAL
OF THE
CONVENTION
TO FORM A CONSTITUTION
FOR THE
STATE OF WISCONSIN:
BEGUN AND HELD AT MADISON, ON THE FIFTH DAY OF OCTOBER, ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND FORTY-SIX.
MADISON, W. T.
BERIAH BROWN, PRINTER
