grew up in the 70s and 80s. Two of my high school teachers were DDay vets, one was in a wheelchair from the bullet he took. My next door neighbor was a B29 navigator over Japan. I had many relatives who fought in the war and a few who remembered WW1 from their childhoods. That's all gone now.

Evidently there was an Auschwitz-themed float in a Halloween parade in Pennsylvania.

The float was for a Catholic school, and to their credit the church immediately disavowed it.

Thing is, I don’t think high school kids did this entirely on their own. I’m guessing parents had to be involved.

The American fascist movement believes that liberals are as cowardly and fear-driven as they are. It is true that liberals are slow to anger. But the American fascists are making the same mistake made by their Confederate and Nazi predecessors.

In fairness, we only see Matt Decker after he is psychologically destroyed by the loss of his crew. Subsequent information from the recent shows indicate that he commanded Constellation for 20 years and was highly decorated. Hard to see him as a bad captain with that record; he was ruined by PTSD.

The GOP is letting it happen, the Supreme Court is fine with it, and the military has now shown it will follow patently and obviously illegal orders.

Folks demanding political / ideological purity fail to see that this is no longer a movement belonging to the left / liberals. This is an opposition against fascism. By definition it must be big tent. Failure to grasp this: see divided oppositions in Eastern Europe as your failed examples.

I wish I had taken that advice when young. It took me a long time to realize that buying fewer goods, but better quality, is usually the winning play. Of course that's hard for necessities when cash flow is an issue, which just reinforces the cycle of debt and poverty.

Yeah i needed some shoes in April and went the cheap route. Mistake! By July I had crippling hip and back pain. In Sept I gave up, bit the $$ bullet and bought much better shoes from a local quality chain rather than discount chain. Now my back and hip are fine, and the shoes will last much longer.

Went to computer center at 1 am to print it. Found the file corrupted, went back to apartment, that version was corrupted too, so i got my research materials, went back to computer center and rewrote it. It was due at 8 am. Lots of coffee, terror, and 24 hour computer center were keys to success.

1991, 40 page paper in grad school about the historiography of the Jacobite movement in Britain. Eaten by a computer virus. Had to recreate and rewrite it in 3 hours.

Thank you for gifting this, Tom. I have to say it does not give me much comfort at all. Could you see this devolving into a situation where orders to fire on civilians are obeyed/disobeyed at the small unit level, with unit cohesion breaking up as some troops refuse to fire while others obey?
