A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”
Members of the force's sports squad, responsible
- among other tasks - for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.
After entering the network through a drain next to the Trocadero, the officers came across a tarpaulin marked: Building site, No access.
Behind that, a tunnel held a desk and a closed-circuit TV camera set to automatically record images of anyone passing. The mechanism also triggered a tape of dogs barking, "clearly designed to frighten people off," the spokesman said.
Further along, the tunnel opened into a vast 400 sq metre cave some 18m underground, "like an underground amphitheatre, with terraces cut into the rock and chairs". There the police found a full-sized cinema screen, projection equipment, and tapes of a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers. None of the films were banned or even offensive, the spokesman said.
A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said.
"The whole thing ran off a professionally installed electricity system and there were at least three phone lines down there."
Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us."

I really love this adaptation of the classic Bradbury tale for the Ray Bradbury Theater (1986). Terrifying. This one stars Jeff Goldblum.

“Putting your political opponents in jail because they are your opponents—not because of what they did—is the heart of tyranny. It is an obviously impeachable offense,” says @chrislhayes.bsky.social on the indictment of NY AG Tish James on Trump-ordered charges.

Republicans won’t show up to vote on paying our troops during the shutdown because avoiding a vote on the Epstein files to protect Trump and his friends is more important.

This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system.

I am not fearful — I am fearless.

We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights..

Did I love “Andy Kaufman Creeping Through The Trees”? No, it unsettled me like nothing else I had ever read, so much so that I had to paint a picture of Andy as Tony Clifton to exorcise it from my system. Never finished it, but Julie Vellum was alongside with him

Happy, Crazy, American Animals and a Man and Lady at My Place — John Wilde, 1961
oil on wood
12 x 17 7/8 in. (30.4 x 45.3 cm.)
americanart.si.edu/artwork/happ...
Description by the Smithsonian: "John Wilde paints in painstaking detail, filling his small images with real and imagined creatures. He incorporates nude female figures to symbolize nature, and in this work the running woman echoes the galloping pronghorn antelope beside her. Wilde's careful technique makes all the animals appear frozen in time, but it is easy to imagine them coming back to life at any moment, screeching and thumping their way through the house. The artist himself stands in the very back of the scene, watching the madness unfold with a calm expression as if he is controlling every movement. "
