resisted seeing this for *decades*, even though I love Carpenter--mostly out of unnecessary "loyalty" to the 1951 version, which I love--finally broke down and watched it a couple years back

got done watching and *immediately* started kicking myself for not seeing it sooner

BLACK WIDOW (1954) on #TCM was weird; starts off like a Sirk melodrama--CinemaScope, lush color, glam characters, an ambitious youngster

then gradually shifts to a mystery that wouldn't be out of place in film noir, only w/50's color instead of b&w, and no sense of foreboding; good, tho
