Enjoyable conference today @joelherman.bsky.social - esp. Atlantic world session of interest, encourages me to read again a slightly battered copy of David N.Doyle's book.
Back tomorrow.
David N. Doyle’s Ireland, Irishmen and Revolutionary America explores the political and social links between Ireland and America from 1760 to 1820. It focuses on Irish migration, especially of Ulster Protestants, and how their identities and loyalties evolved in the revolutionary Atlantic world. He examines why some Irish emigrants supported American independence while others remained loyal to Britain, and connects developments in Ireland to wider movements for reform and revolution in America, France, and Britain.
The book places Ireland within the broader Atlantic context, showing how ideas and people moved across borders.

In Among the Powers of the Earth: The American Revolution and the Making of a New World Empire, historian Eliga Gould reinterprets the Revolutionary era not just as a domestic struggle for independence, but as a quest for legitimacy on the global stage.

My colleague Jack Bouchard's book Terra Nova is out today! It's about early 16th-century mariners and the seasonal fishery around present-day Newfoundland, and its place within the Atlantic World. I cannot wait to read it
