There's an arcade mode currently, if you're familiar with Smash Bros. it's pretty similar. It's even got break the targets with character specific layouts and you unlock character art for beating it. A story mode is confirmed to be in development, but not yet in the game. Probably out next year.

Yes, but there's a big focus on the multiplayer aspect of the game right now. I'd say either convince some friends to try it with you or wait for some more single player content to drop
