ugly is more interesting than beautiful. the duty of the artist is to disgust their audience

the game would still be good even if it looked like modern tech, but it's the fact that it doesn't is what's partially making it such a sleeper hit. the game is hideous, and that's what makes it so compelling

battlefield 6 came out three days ago and looks the best a video game has ever looked. and yet, the talk of the town is still no i am not a human. when n.i.a.n.a.h. isn't jpegs on top of jpegs you can literally count the polygons, and still its visual quality is being praised to no end

we've had the technology to do whatever the fuck we want with games since silent hill 3 came out twenty-two years ago. by 2010 people were losing their minds over heavy rain's visual fidelity, and today in 2025 you can barely tell battlefield 6 from an actual photograph

movies and comics broke out of strict representation extremely fast, but video games historically have been more stubborn to abandon strict realism. i do think lately that's changing on a much more popular scale

why bother committing hundreds of hours to recreating real, meticulous beauty in painting when you can grab literally any camera you want and do the same thing in a fraction of a second? artists as a whole became more interested in fucking around and making things that could only exist as "art"
jedkeezy.bsky.social
by the time the renaissance masters had reinvented how the west painted human figures, they got bored and starting fucking around (see: madonna with the long neck)

by the time photography was invented realism became even less important, until eventually we eschewed it completely

there's a trend in art, and this isn't a unique observation, that the greater skill and technology becomes in creating works of art the more the culture becomes bored with perfection

it's my opinion that the goal of any furry artist should be the ability to draw feet abd paws suspiciously well. once you've crossed that threshold you've officially made it

There we go, wolf+caracal—cuter together. Still learning how to draw kisses. Head tilts confuse me. How to muzzle? Halp.
#Doodles 🧵 9/?
Eleven red ink doodles from the signed hardcover editions. This set shows Sterjall and Kulak kissing, holding handpaws, touching noses, etc. All cute.

do we know who painted this. where is the original. i will pay money for it.

this painting exceeds the context of an advertisement and elevates itself to being genuinely excellent artistic composition. i'm so pissed.

the man is midway through the paper as she does this. he didn't hand the chocolates to her himself, he put them somewhere he knew she'd find them. he's sitting in his chair the same way he was before she arrived. he expected this. look how happy he is that his plan succeeded. look at his smile.

look at the curve of the woman's body as she cranes in front of his face to smooch him, delicately wrapping herself around him. her hair and necklaces flow off her body like chocolate pouring slowly into a mould. her expression of love, her smooch, is calm. purposeful.

i am enraged at how gorgeously this piece is composed, and it's a advertisement. jesus christ. it's like if they hired klimt to sell chocolates. incredible.

writing new SF would require engaging with the disconcerting present, which I don't think most authors want to do
