Guardian writers campaigned against puberty-blockers because they were prescribed "off label".

Now the Guardian is celebrating Ozempic, a drug being used off label for obesity.

The difference...?

Puberty-blockers have been used for trans kids for 30+ years, Ozempic for obesity only for 4 years.

Gamechanger for more than just obesity
First developed to help lower blood sugar levels as a diabetes treatment, it was quickly apparent that Novo Nordisk’s drug semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy jabs) has a dramatic effect on weight. The drug works by mimicking a hormone, GLP-1, which is released in the gut when we eat and acts on receptors around the body, including the brain.

But yes PA/PD Therapists who unlearned the cis hetero centrism of that world can do enormous good. Just like behavioral therapy can be good & bad. right now ugly transphobia is passed off as “exploration “ and supported by PA/PD folks asserting that we need to “not foreclose” on gender identity.

Psychoanalytic history is steeped in deeply held ideas that homosexual and transsexual people are inherently maladapted. But so is a lot of psychology. But psychoanalytic seems to be out there at the forefront of some of the most egregious anti trans theorizing and action in mental heath today.

Completely. And history of psychodynamic thinking is rife with unexamined obsession with gender. That said I know some truly excellent gender affirming therapists with a psychodynamic approach. Too bad psychodynamic thinking is being abused by fringe TERFs

so to be clear, Microsoft is using a tool it's embedded into its operating system and many (all?) of its softwares to promote conversion therapy against trans kids, disguised to fool their parents into thinking it isn't purely anti-transition
