The Seeley family were as prosperous as one could expect back at the turn of the century. They held property rights to the vast majority of the Verdegreen Swamp, which they rented out only to those willing to offer labor in exchange.

Devout followers of Solaris, sun-god of humanity, they were convinced that the world would face a great test soon. They hoarded resources, intent on comfortably riding out this test, whatever form it might take.

When the tensions between humans and tokai began to boil and the War of Skin and Scales began, the Seeleys were certain that the test had come and so retreated into their mansion in the deepest part of the swamp. Their laborers were let go en masse, having provided them all the supplies they needed to endure the coming turmoil.

The Seeleys were prepared for war, famine, pestilence and wild beasts. What they had not anticipated was the tectonic event that the war triggered, nor the floods that this event would bring to the swamp.
Somewhere, hundreds of miles from anyone who might care to help, the Seeley mansion was buried deep underwater. And that was the end of that.

Or so the story goes. The truth is, historians aren't sure if the Seeleys ever really existed, or how embellished the stories are. With their workers scattered to the four winds, their belongings hoarded into one place, and the war plunging everything into chaos, their very existence is mostly hearsay. And most of those stories are clearly embellished.

Today, large sections of Verdegreen have been developed and it boasts a respectable population. The Seeleys have become something of a local ghost story, told during the latter days of Summer.

According to the legend, every now and then, the waters recede, the mansion reappears and the family emerges. When this happens, they stalk the swamp at night, violently murdering anyone they come across, or whisking them away, or luring them into the bog to be drowned.

What started off from the idea of "video game boss that you beat by feeding stuff" instead sorta chaged course a lot and now, I ended up making a bolum fire mage woman, Kalora!

Kalora, or Kal to some, or Kali to some others.
Her necklace helps her cheat at mana channeling, but it has some risks!

Kalora knows two major types of spells she can cast herself: flame magic, and a sort of "convert energy" magic.
Her necklace gem acts like a battery, really good at holding lots of mana.
Kalora eats a lot, and can alter her digestion to convert a lot of it into mana, stored in the necklace.

Without it however, her trick is missing a step, and now her digestion boost would have no destination, simply turning into weight.
