"We are a decade into Trumpism. These Young Republicans have never known any other type of Republicanism. We’re talking about a full generation of Republicans who only understand politics in the context of an authoritarian project."

ABOLISH ICE and EXPAND THE SUPREME COURT should be mainstream Democratic promises and talking points.

But timidity and civility will rule the day and screw the rest of us and this country in the end.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
I'm done mincing words. These fascists need to be afraid to leave DC. Democratic governors need to start arresting and prosecuting any Trump lackey who sets foot in their state. ICE and BP first. We need to make people not want to risk working for him.

BREAKING via WSJ

The Trump administration is planning sweeping changes in criminal division at the IRS.

Full Story: on.wsj.com/3LbVFtK
The Trump administration is preparing sweeping changes at the Internal Revenue Service that would allow the agency to pursue criminal inquiries of left-leaning groups more easily, according to people familiar with the matter.
A senior IRS official involved in the effort has drawn up a list of potential targets that includes major Democratic donors, some of the people said.
The undertaking aims to install allies of President Trump at the IRS criminal-investigative division, or IRS-CI, to exert firmer control over the unit and weaken the involvement of IRS lawyers in criminal investigations, officials said. The proposed changes could open the door to politically motivated probes and are being driven by Gary Shapley, an adviser to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

And again, capital will just work to erode those institutions like the Free Press.

Yes. We DO need a free press, what I'm saying is that as long as we let capital dominate, we will never actually have a free press.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
All of those laws and regulations....we had that stuff. Capitalism corrodes any restrictions placed on it by its very nature.

The fundamental changes needed to prevent that corrosion would render it no longer capitalism.

All you're advocating for is a reset. I want to fix it once and for all.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
This is a perfect example of why capitalism *must* be destroyed.

Any system that allows the extreme accumulation of wealth and power results in individuals who abuse said power. Those who accrue power inevitably corrupt any checks put on their power.

Capitalism must die or the cycle will continue.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
We are seeing the construction of the Prerogative State right before our eyes.

I don't know how to fix this...but I'm confident at this point that the fix won't be peaceful.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
Remember, the hypocrisy is part of the strategy. Unless there are actual consequences for this, it's just one more example of the normalization of hate and bigotry.

“The content of that image does not reflect the values or standards of this office, my staff, or myself, and I condemn it in the strongest terms," Taylor said in a statement.

Hopefully. But I'm not holding my breath for most of them.

The bigger battlefield, one that scum like Sinclair have been fighting on for decades is the affiliate stations. Most of these news people are not big-name stars, and real pushback comes with harsher consequences and less protection.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
I'm not sure exactly what your point is, I think I'm just not understanding you. Are you saying that the First Amendment allows them to say whatever they want, making it hard for journalists to cover them well?

That's the definition of fascism from Robert Paxton, one of the preeminent historians of the subject, from his book ANATOMY OF FASCISM which came out more than two decades ago.
georgetakei.bsky.social
Oh yes, this is clearly now.

A post on X by Mehdi Hasan (@mehdirhasan
) expresses frustration, asking how anyone can read a definition of fascism and not be alarmed, emphasizing that it is happening now. The post includes a quote from Cody Johnston (@drmistercody
) from one day ago, defining fascism as a form of political behavior marked by an obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victimhood, and compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity. The definition describes a mass-based party of nationalist militants working with traditional elites, abandoning democratic liberties, and pursuing redemptive violence for internal cleansing and external expansion without ethical or legal restraints.

NO. We have no way of knowing that.

He's threatening sexual violence. He's saying he would rape them. Rape is more about power gratification than sexual gratification.

These people lie like they breathe.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Eisenhower understood that the New Deal was the release valve that kept the plebs from eating the rich.

Westward expansion was the release valve before that.

Trump et al seem to think that their tools of oppression can override the societal pressures that topple empires.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
I appreciate this response more than you may know...

Take care and be well :)
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
All good, and also....sorry for being so harsh....

I'm just so worried and tired.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
Good, then you should be able to understand why nuance matters.

They are not all stupid, and not all of them believe.

To describe them as such misrepresents the situation, to the detriment of anyone who takes those words seriously.

Maybe you're being hyperbolic but it's hard to tell with text.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
You're falling for a tried-and-true fascist tactic. Fascists use words like weapons and use confusion and distraction to their advantage.

They are happy to look stupid if it serves to distract their opponents.

Their only goal is power, don't forget that.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
Lol, two different replies to the same comment? Get a grip dude, see my other comment.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
Don't put words in my mouth.

I'd like to see every one of them, from Trump all the way back to Bush or farther behind bars. Including the democrats. War criminals one and all.

I'll ask one more time, try to pay attention. Who is the "they" that both sides answer to?
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
Oh god, they are spreading! Quick, quarantine procedures stat!

In the 2010s, this country's elites were thrown onto social platforms with everyone else and could finally read what we all think about them and it caused them so much psychic damage that they decided to destroy both the internet and democracy to make sure nothing like it ever happened again.
gbbranstetter.bsky.social
If this is what it took for you to be pushed into fascism you were probably already there
This predates the social media wars of the late 2010s: One Trump appointee told me that a radicalizing experience was being booted out of the Gawker comments section, way back in the day. But as progressive movements swept through social media, others were tossed off Twitter and Facebook for stepping over a variety of lines, from allegations of harassment to claims of election misinformation. Pandemic era public health rules and fevered enforcement cost others their accounts.
jamesrandisghost.bsky.social
Both-siding this shit is just carrying water for fascists.

The Dems are pretty bad, but calling them equal to the fascists fucks destroying our country as we speak?

Who are they both "taking orders from" by the way? Please use sources.
