But I would be in favour of adopting the €. The additional economic benefit to the UK, on top of the benefit of rejoining the EU, would be in the order of £50B/yr. But it would make the little Englanders froth at the mouth
The UK's opt outs have been estimated to have been worth ~£7B/yr, vastly outweighed by the £100B/yr cost of Brexit.
Like Denmark & Sweden, the UK would technically be obliged to adopt the €, but could avoid this by not joining the ERM.
€ & rebates would be discussed in re-entry negotiations
That is a matter for negotiation, but in any case the UK will be better off in than out, even without the previous favourable terms.p
I do not wish to jump to conclusions, but I have a suspicion that improving the provision of mental health services might be more effective
But it does lend credence to those who falsely suggest that membership of the ECHR is against the UK's interests - so bolstering support for Reform rather than weakening it
Keir Starmer is a barrister he knows this. He's just making noise in a vain attempt to attract Reform voters - it won't work
No it won't. Slight changes won't stop people appealing & will only affect the results of a handful of those that do. ~5000 are expelled /yr. 2.5% is about 125 people. How many of these use the ECHR in their appeal & how many of those will have the result changed by this slight change, 5, 10?
Well that answers the age-old question!
It's going to be Mill Road, isn't it?
I had a tumble as a teenager - somersaulted over the handlebars, clipped my head on the tarmac, landed on my feet. I still carry the scar. If I'd worn a helmet, would the additional cms have converted a glancing blow into full contact with resulting neck injury etc? It's impossible to know of course
I worked on Cluster off and on for more than 15 years. Helping to build the sensors for the PEACE instrument, for the original mission, then Phoenix & Cluster II, before moving to Darmstadt to join the Flight Control Team. Sad to see it end, very proud of my contribution to a ground-breaking mission

Someone I used to work with had helped to survey La Palma when it was under consideration as a site for the JCMT. He said that it was the most spectacular place he'd ever been to. It's still on my bucket list
In Germany! - ha ha!
I'm getting to grips with this new-fangled social media thing 😁
Labour probably won't do well in Germany either 😁
Yes, England and Wales - I thought I was answering on a completely unrelated thread, ooops
"Asking individuals to spend money on helmets, lights, and reflective gear without investing in better transit culture ignores the fact that the real danger to cyclists comes from behind the wheel, not from behind handlebars"
"know that cycle helmets really only protect against grazes and scrapes, and precious little else, please will you stop with the “My mate crashed his bike and smashed up his helmet. If it wasn’t for his helmet, his skull would’ve been smashed” stories, as they simply are not true"
- exactly!
I usually wear a helmet & track mitts for the same reason - I'd rather they make contact with the tarmac than my skin, but I doubt either would save my life. On balance you're probably a bit safer wearing one, but it'll make bugger all difference if you're hit by a truck

In the ’80s, We Decided Bike Helmets Make Riders Safe. Cyclists Have Paid for It Ever Since.
Some cyclists refuse to wear helmets on principle. They have their reasons.
