Just for context -- the current discourse is because readers are complaining authors aren't tagging who top or bottom in a fic. I don't think anyone is advocating for not using tags at all, but there's disagreement about how *much* tagging should be done.

Naoki Hamaguchi explains that from the actual storyline of the OG FF7, there was a flow of Rocket Town in Rebirth. To move that to the third installment, it changes the relationship between the two. Basically, he wants to make all of the elements and essence of the OG come true. (TheGamer, 10/18)

You cannot tag perfectly for both inclusion (I want this as my main ship, I want this kink front-and-centre) and exclusion (I'm triggered by even a mention of this kink, I hate this ship and don't want it even in the background) and we should stop pretending you can.

also the way some people involved in this discourse still believe that top/bottom preference impacts personality also makes me hesitant to tag it. 1. i thought we left that in the manga from 2+ decades ago and 2. i don't want you to make assumptions about my charactization based on a top/bottom tag

Because I'm a jerk, a huge part of my current fic involves people counterfeiting materia and magical accessories. I love the idea that the stuff people buy in the slums is just cut glass trash.

You also have the 'no material in Wutai' thing-- Shinra clearly have control over the distribution of what are effectively very strong weapons. I think they are much more controlled/restricted than what they seem to be in-game.

So much of FF7 is about dealing with the legacy of what your parents leave you with (Rufus, Vincent, Sephiroth etc) I wanted to think about that in terms of memories. Like memories from WAY back are so foreign most people can't understand them at all (Holy) so only the Cetra have that context.
