Digging through some mid-90s #DarkForces fansites, and it's amusing to witness some early discourse on whether Star Wars video games are canon.

The author argues that it isn't. The writer provides an explanation and hints at a Leia/Mon feud.

I mean, sure, I absolutely hope that the series does something new and different from prior adaptations.

I guess, I'm just annoyed when we treat great works of the past as something that a) came out of nowhere; b) is the definitive version of the story no one should touch anymore.

I'm simply pointing out that this story has been told numerous times before *and* after Forman.

Art is not a competition, you yourself speak of that often. So any "bar to clear" is in our heads only.

Miloš Forman's Amadeus is great, sure.

But so is Peter Shaffer's original play, and its 2016 production with Lucian Msamati. And Alexander Pushkin's play that inspired Shaffer. And Rimsky-Korsakov's opera adaptation of Pushkin's play.

Stories evolve constantly. Let them.

My hot take for today is that remakes are... fine 🤷‍♂️

The goal of adapting stories again and again is not to create the best possible version and then close the book.

It's to see the story in a new context, with new actors and their unique dynamic, maybe new storytelling priorities.

Mind you, over $100m of that was reimbursed by the UK government.

Also, according to Abrams, there were considerably fewer reshoots on TROS than on TFA. So, if I had to guess, the money mostly went into the huge-ass sets and extra development during the Trevorrow tenure.

And what if I told you it's genuinely creepy and is actually one of my favourite episodes? 😜

In fact, while working on The X-Files game, we actually wrote a sequel to it and, at one point, the characters were meant to return to that town — in a somewhat unusual way.

1) Dan Trachtenberg is a comic book director at heart, framing every shot like a panel come to life. Excited to see what he did in Killer of Killers and Badlands.

Kinda, but I think the idea of that criticism is that the film's ambition outstretches its means.

This year I saw an Uzbeki indie that styles itself as a lush period noir set in the US, and, like... I respect the effort, but they simply didn't have the sets, props and costumes for that approach.
