Hello humans! My name is Adam Seats, my pronouns are they/them, and you might know me from my TTRPG shenanigans. I was an author on the 2022 ENnie award winning One Night Strahd, but I've been doing a lot since then! You can keep up with all my hijinx here or at iknowadamseats.biz

Did this once with someone whose ideas were extremely formative to how I view fantasy ttrpg worlds back when I was just getting into gaming. Found them posting various fanfics on a far-right rpg message board that also had a famous geek singer. Would not recommend this flavor of internet psychosis.

chatgpt? whatever. I’m giving myself internet psychosis the old fashioned way: finding an unhinged individual and falling down a rabbit hole of trying to figure out whatever tf they’re doing

Finally saw Sinners. What an absolute piece of cinema.

Oh no, I absolutely acknowledge there's a scale and also that that scale is deceptive about its size. I am mostly operating out of my depth talking about things like this - & to be clear, my concept of the efficacy of pre-orders towards production comes from my misspent youth working at Game Stop. 😅
iknowadamseats.bsky.social
That IS a good thing to keep in mind - and I guess also then slides into the question space of "are these being used to fund projects that might not make it vs are they being used solely as pre-order machines" which is a different beast entirely. (Which to be clear I think is fine but is different.)
iknowadamseats.bsky.social
And by "effectiveness" I mean effective at the goal of getting games funded and published. There are probably other metrics you could use (reach/hype, efficacy of advertising), but trying to think about those without stats in hand makes my brain hurt 😅
iknowadamseats.bsky.social
See that's the part I find fascinating! I've been wondering if even if the projects themselves don't make more money, their...like...net "effectiveness" at getting games funded is higher than single game projects either fully alone or in a collective push (ZiMo, etc)

Ooooooh I am in a frankly unsustainable number of Discords right now, but I might be convinced!

Alright gang, #MothershipMonth25 is now live. These 26 other creators have done a phenomenal job bringing the setting of Prospero's Dream to life. Give them a look.

Oh also, no big deal but OVER/UNDER has over 1,200 players right now.

A lot of AI enthusiasts are keen to use LLMs to write books, and then use LLMs to summarise books and avoid reading them.

It seems to me they do not really care about books, nor reading. It's ok not to like books or reading, but I feel they are wasting time, silicon, and power.

Trick or Treat!🌟

Also I love that we're all just agreed now that mashing up the cover art for blog posts means mucking about with the big triangle.
A mashup of the cover art for Mythic Bastionland and promo art for Triangle Agency, used as the cover for my "Knights of the Triangular Table" blog post.
iknowadamseats.bsky.social
As someone who also saw the potential to mash up Mythic Bastionland with another game, I love love LOVE other people are seeing this potential. Also Eco Mofos rules regardless, great to see it getting brought up again too.

A shame the only way I could ever make this work for me is if I somehow got Wes Johnson to take me on as an apprentice or something. 😅
iknowadamseats.bsky.social
I get that this whole thing might sound a little conceited, but I guess what I'm trying to say is: there are very few things I *personally* consider myself good at, and this is one of them, so I always forget how much it surprises people because somehow a thing I'm good at just never comes up.
iknowadamseats.bsky.social
I think it really surprises people when they find out I'm good at announcing because, like, why would that ever come up right? And then I'll go do one of these tournaments, or I'll MC a showcase at MAGFest or something and then I've gotta awkwardly sit through everyone being like "WHOA YOU'RE GOOD!"
iknowadamseats.bsky.social
So, as you might have seen from my various posts over the last few days, I announced at a local roller derby tournament. It's fun for me to get to step out of being an official and step into being an announcer, but it's also funny because it's something I'm good at that never comes up day to day.

Yes! Exactly them - it turns out I'm following them and completely forgot how to search for them 😅

There's that person who occasionally shows up with crowdfunding stats every few months (maybe with like...the word spider in their username?) - I would be curious to see if that person has any thoughts on this too.

This differs from community projects like Mausritter Month/Mothership Month or Zine Quest/Month because, of course, those are all disparate projects banding together to build on collective hype as opposed to all of them being in one single project.

I just think this is all neat!

Then there is of course the Kickstarter for Homecoming, Chuck, and Cosmic Century Knights (a game I am infinitely biased towards and so will not speak on further here).

This is the one I just saw. These are all games that predate my experience in the greater TTRPG creation scene, but are apparently very well known. Cool that a university press is doing this too.

Something that fascinates me but I am not educated enough to comment on (and I hope someone over at @rascal.news does): seeing crowdfunding projects where multiple games get added together, usually by the same publisher, and using the collective success to make sure they all get published. Examples:
