If you think a golden ballroom is more important than childhood cancer research… I have nothing left to say to you. Please unfollow me.

We have been warned in recent and distant history the dangers of allowing fascist regimes in power. I often teach my students that science fiction is reflective, not predictive. Here, it's both. #bookrecs #readingblog #earthseed #taketothestars #changeisgod #climayechange #nokings #deportice
A political cult machine who vows to make America great again inflames these crises as 15 year old Lauren Olamina flees her community in search of a better life, creating a new religion, Earthseed.
Parable of the Sower isn't Octavia Butler's best book, but it's certainly the most relevant. Published in 1993 & set in 2024, #climatechange and social inequalities have made the US uninhabitable.

This is what we mean when we talk about corporate greed: Starbucks gave its CEO $96 million for just 4 months of work. Meanwhile, Starbucks is refusing to offer a raise of more than 50 cents an hour to 12,000 union workers.

That's unacceptable. Starbucks must end their greed.
The author was tragic, and the protagonist, Ignatius, is such a complex character. Do you love him? Is he an og neck beard type? What is his root psychological problem? Whatever it is, great book. Strong rec to those out there. #nolafiction #booksky #nola #bookrecs
Just finished reading this for the third time. I'd read it first back in high school at the rec of my friend, Robyn. I read it again maybe 10 years ago. This third read was done in New Orleans, the setting of the novel. Being in the city helped me put so much together that I hadn't gotten before.
Dismayed egg in toast, gazing upon a disinterested sky. #nola #neworleans #toast
