Parliament Adjourns Without First Reading of Anti-LGBTQ Bill

Parliament of Ghana adjourned sitting today, October 21, 2025, to tomorrow at 2:00 p.m., without the First Reading of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ bill.

Local activists say that the law, which is not yet in force and is part of a new family code, could be interpreted 'as an invitation to discriminate against or commit acts of violence aimed at LGBTQ individuals.'
🚨 On 1 September, the unelected transitional legislative assembly in #BurkinaFaso unanimously adopted amendments to the country’s Persons and Family Code, including a new provision banning the promotion of homosexuality.

Update from the Caribbean: Yesterday, the High Court of Saint Lucia struck down discriminatory, colonial-era laws that criminalised #LGBT people. This decision leaves only five countries in the Western Hemisphere where such laws remain in place.
