Tell a human to speak a wish to the air, and how often they will tell you what they *want* instead. “Want” is a self defense mechanism adapted by a calcified human ego to preserve its present state; deployed against the *wish* that expands the soul past the conditions of humanity.

The lead guy in my novel is a walking ball of contradictions; a genocidaire who thinks that because he spares a few souls every now and again he has a heart of gold. I love writing about inconsistent self-contradictory people whose morals are made gradually, in a crucible of decades.

imo the idea of “consistent character” can trap writers in logic jail. human beings are often self-contradictory & complicated. for example "loyal" people are not comprised of code that prevents them from taking any action that could be conceived of by anyone anywhere as disloyal

One of my PCs is a big snake who was fighting a sea monster; they whipped out this whole poem extolling the creature's beauty and glorifying their impending battle, it was awesome.

One of my favorite things to do as a GM is to give players context-free heads-up about things that will happen to their characters in the upcoming session; they prewrite their characters' reaction, so when the moment comes they bust out some real grimdark soliloquy, some real Ahab type beats.

So to be clear, ICE Agents:

-Attack priests
-Cannot stand to be near a monstrance or holy procession
-Deny their prisoners the Eucharist & other holy rites
-Refuse to identify themselves because knowing their name & face gives you power over them

I like it when my friends are into kids’ cartoons or superheroes or whatever. I try to let them enjoy that and avoid getting stunlocked by the structural fascism of whatever. I like knowing that even though my brain has been ruined by forbidden knowledge, other people are having a good time.
