Kid #1 won 1 of the 4 rounds and did not place in his category, but I am so proud of him for wanting to go, trying his best, and being a good sport. He loves chess club and I think he had a great experience today competing against kids from other schools.

I put on Schoolhouse Rock for the kids all the time. They’re not super into it yet but I am still hoping they’ll pick up on the lessons when I’m playing it on tv when I do chores.

He is in his element! It’s put on by the nonprofit organization that runs all the school chess clubs at the area schools. He’s in the 1st grade and under bracket playing against kids from other elementary schools.

At the local library with kid #1 for his first chess tournament. It’s a 4 round tourney and he has lost 2 rounds, won 1, and we’re waiting for the 4th. Tiebreakers are possible at the end if needed. Letting kid #1 check out books afterwards.

It was a nice respite from everything going on. My dad has been on bowling leagues his entire adult life so it was so cool to watch him teach my kids how to bowl. Great memories for all of us.

This is absolutely disgusting and inexcusable, no one wants to smell your funk, fellow white people. Take a shower every day, scrub your whole body. Use deodorant and lotion, and wash your washcloths after a single use.

I'm going to start calling essays like this "odes to whiteness" because the underlying premise is that they are like this because they don't anticipate any social cost to smelling bad.

This one is v. frustrating because it tries to lump in perfumes with the broader (problematic) beauty industry

I’m turning 50 next year. I rarely wear deodorant anymore. Many women I know have stopped, too. We don’t talk about it, but I catch it in the air — a faint musk of onion, goat, curry, mustard, salt, sage, fennel, ozone, and the muddy wet marrow of the earth itself. I’m kind of obsessed with this collective stink: the animal symphony of skin, of women being women, punk and unfiltered, taking up space with their scent. Raw, unapologetic BO. The more I live among it, the more I see it not as a hygiene failure but as a radical act of self-acceptance. It’s not polite, but it’s honest — and that feels hot. Hotter, even, than anything a Guess ad ever promised.

My bio dad came down from Chicago yesterday and spent the night. We went bowling yesterday and to the apple orchard/pumpkin patch today. Kiddos had a blast, it was so good to see my dad and the kids loved being with him. A nice bright spot in this hellscape.

I wish there was a decent alternative because it was a fabulous way to learn about gardening for me, and I know a lot of other people deep into GardenTok feel the same way. It had useful purposes but here we are.

I’m deep into GardenTok and have learned so much about gardening/backyard farming on that app. It was a great learning tool for me but not worth it now. I’m trying to find other places to follow the educators/creators.

My basset hound was always eager to become a low flying, high velocity, mud slinging missle. Mud was one of the few thinks that could motivate that chunk to have any speed. 😭
