Does anyone else ever think about how the Real Housewives franchise started because of "Desperate Housewives"?

I mean, I know one of them needs coke money, but again?

The thing about 10 episode seasons is we never get to hang out in these worlds! I feel like it is so important for getting people attached to characters, rather than just seeing them propelled through a story.

As much as I love "Diagnosis: Murder", it absolutely fits in there too.

I want to say I've plugged it on the show like three times already. Same with the tv series "FRINGE"

We should be talking about THE ROCKETEER all the time, that movie rules

This week I’m chatting with @butwhytho.net about the legacy The Rocky Horror Picture Show and how the film transgresses propriety in both form and function. 50 years on, it remains THE cult movie.

I loved this conversation, and I hope you’ll give it a listen!

This, but for academic podcasting.

I hate to ask, but if you could please rate/review our show on the platform of your choice, that would be a big help. I'm seeing someone next week who really didn't believe in me and this show, and I'd love to make him feel like crap about it. 💖

So not only do I have access to a much larger dataset because the films have since been digitized, but I can embed scenes in my text, do side-by-side analysis of scenes from multiple films to demonstrate trends, AND let the readers watch every film available within my scope of work.

Here's a fun little way to explain why digital history is so cool:

My work is based Gilbert's A Cycle of Outrage (1984). He wrote a chapter looking at 4 movies, and he had to go to the Library of Congress to see them. Mine is based on over 50, and they are ALL embedded IN FULL in my digital book.

Please do! I'm a sucker for anything New Deal related, so I was already going to read your book after this semester, and if you want to join in for Musical May 2026 too, we can do "Annie"!

Thank you! My original plan was to do more episodes like our pilot on "One, Two, Three", just because I never imagined I'd be able to book guests. It's been so much fun doing it the way we have instead, and it's very rewarding! My goal was to get Rosenstone SOME DAY MAYBE, and we had him by ep 12 😎

And just to get it out there, "Waterboy" is a good Sandler comedy, but it actually also revitalized the economy of my hometown and the filming that they did there basically paid for downtown beautification projects and was kind of a miracle for the community? So I like that one more than I should.

Let me get through this next wave of episodes and then let's talk! I have something like 7 or 8 episodes that I'm recording over the span of 3 weeks, and there is a conference in there somewhere too 😵

I liked that one the least. I'd watch "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" again before "Reign Over Me"
historyonfilm.bsky.social
Of all the movies I saw that year, "Spanglish" was one of them.

Just want to put this out there- I built this show with the specific intention of showcasing other people's work to a broader public audience. I want it to be a platform for sharing cool books/projects/papers with the world. I just never expected to land so many great guests! 😄

Especially considering most of his output of the last several years is laundering vacations through Netflix original movies. I remember really liking Funny People and being mixed on Punch Drunk Love. I haven't revisited either.
