Just like the funny animal said.
Panel from the comic Achewood featuring a funny cat lying in bed saying "Oh no it's today" and it's funny but not.

Power House

Hollywood CA 2025
Power House neon and arrows indicating the door and that you can buy cocktails there. Long exposure so it looks like everything is coming to pieces.

“[AI is] not a good knockoff. The ultimate goal is never to be as good as the art — the goal is to be good enough to get on the page, get the consumer to use it, and get rid of the worker.” —Molly Crabapple, artist
Can Artists Stop the AI Slop Machine?
A recent workshop in Manhattan's Lower East Side challenged the notion that the takeover of machine learning is inevitable.

Something something organic development and then being labeled a thing after the fact versus people glomming onto the label and refining and refining and worrying about staying in the lines and not blowing them up.

In addition to being one of my favorite games, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1, 1997) is also one of the most cooperative photography subjects. Very easy to work with. Effortless. What a beauty. I wish every game were this photogenic.

Richter Belmont, seemingly under the influence of some malicious magic spell, unleashes a kung fu werewolf and a shotokan minotaur to attack our hero Alucard. They go absolutely ape shit with special attacks, and Alucard leaps into the fray. In a twisted nightmare prison depicting the lynching death of Alucard's mother, an evil succubus spreads her leathery bat wings and prepares to attack Alucard after he thoughtfully dispels her magical ruse. Her rude titties and clam are out, but Alucard is unfazed. Nothing he hasn't seen before. After defeating the parasitic corpse demon Legion, Alucard takes a moment to gather his thoughts amidst thousands of human skulls. His faithful faerie companion rests on his shoulder, knee-highs kicked out playfully. Finally Alucard confronts Richter Belmont in Dracula's throne room, having solved the mystery of Castlevania. Wearing special goggles, Alucard can see the mysterious green orb, actually the Dark Priest Shaft, that is controlling Richter.

In a world with any manner of justice whatsoever, half of the money for The Walking Dead would be in Romero's pocket.

Hey, remember when you were a publication worth reading instead of headline-grabbing nonsense?

I'm beginning to forget, myself.

Such a blockable opinion from a wildly successful yet boring writer.

Well at least until the power grid or economy crashes.

I don't fear being outdone by the slop machines. I fear, however, that the slop output will be enough for most customers to never buy human-made art again.

Happy birthday to the singular @gemmafiles.bsky.social (only one day before mine -- now that's kinda weird.)
