Eight of the basic 11 of the Dutch national team play in England. Plus one at Barcelona, one at Inter, one in Brazil.

Before Dutch elections, most parties let the financial and economic consequences of their plans by @cpbnl.bsky.social. Here the spending on education, relative to the basic trajectory (which, I assume, already includes last year’s budget cuts). There is only one party that wants to cut even more.

I showed them papers about the better comprehension in live classes relative to online. And I said it’s more fun for all of us if people show up.

I just counted heads. These lectures are usually not compulsory.

The experiment wasn’t perfect. The course went to the other semester. But fun to do. I think turnout was 65% but I gave in of course.

Yes. Two lectures per week, one was at 9 indeed! I think Thurs 9

📚 School subjects and politics

A UK study found that what teens study shapes their future politics: arts & humanities students lean liberal, business & economics lean right. These patterns persist into adulthood.

Dutch counter action against extreme right protest: sponsor a participant to the extreme right demonstration, for charity for humane goals. Great idea.

Zondag gaat extreemrechts weer demonstreren tegen asielbeleid in Amsterdam.

Samen draaien we deze mars van haat om naar een sponsorloop van hoop! 'Sponsor' vanaf €3,- een extreemrechtse demonstrant om geld op te halen vóór medemenselijkheid en humane opvang: buff.ly/87Lxs1t

Of course at the start there is some complaining. “Why should I be punished for my fellow’s misbehaviour??” The good thing is this was a sociological theory class.

One of the best things I did in Amsterdam is to tell students that I’d make the taped lectures only available to them when the average turnout at lectures was 67%. Taught them a lesson on collective goods and coordination. It worked!

'It is no secret that student attendance has plummeted in recent years, with near-empty lecture halls a staple of the post-pandemic world.'

Really? I lecture to all our 1st years. Lecture hall is full, not near-empty. Student engagement picked up last year and (early days) seems stronger again. 1/2
