It's the first lesson any decent parent teaches their kid.

And it's the first lesson we forget when we realize most people don't give a fuck about you, and the rest will gleefully try to take advantage of you.

Maybe we SHOULD let kids vote.

Most of the kids I've met seem to have more empathy and compassion for their fellow human beings than most adults i know.

At least until society beats it out of them, i guess.

Talking to the 5-year-old about the election tomorrow has backfired spectacularly because she asked if she gets to vote, and I explained to her that she needed to be 18, and she is now crying and vigorously arguing that you should be allowed to vote “whatever age you are”

I honestly never really got the whole "respect your elders" mentality.

Respect them for what, exactly? A good portion of them have no respect for the younger generations and still want to act like it's the 1940s.

A lot of people are sharing articles about how to stretch your food budget or cook like our grandparents did to survive.

Our grandparents lived through the Great Depression.

If we’re having to resort to what they did… things are much worse than folks are willing to admit.

Basic requirements for a comfortable standard of life such as access to Healthcare, food, and housing SHOULD be available for ALL citizens regardless of their financial status.

Instead we treat human life like a commodity to be bought and sold. And if you can't afford to pay, you starve and die.

Free market can still exist in a socialist state.

All socialism does is ensure that the ultra-wealthy don't mercilessly take advantage of the poor, which is most assuredly happening under our current system.

Poverty and homelessness is a completely fixable problem.

The issue is the people with money, privledge, and power to fix the problem don't WANT to because it would mean having to sacrifice some of that money, privledge, and power.

They took billions in profits, while their workers relied on SNAP to survive.

Wanna fix fraud and abuse?

The problem isn't that we have too many families in the US that rely on SNAP benefits for food.

The problem is that people who work full-time jobs still are not being paid enough to cover the basic costs of living.

Blame the companies paying their workers poverty wages, not the workers themselves.

And that doesn't even begin to address the fact that a lot of people don't HAVE family/friends they can just fall back on.

Don't get me wrong. Support networks are wonderful to have, but we need to have systems in place to help people who don't have that kind of support readily available.
