BREAKING: The @voxmediaunion.bsky.social reached a tentative agreement with management on a new 3-year collective bargaining agreement! The 250-member unit will vote to ratify the contract in the coming days. As a deal has now been reached, there will not be any pickets outside Vox Media’s office.

We have so far been unable to reach a deal with Vox Media that includes fair pay, AI protections, competitive benefits, improved severance and layoff procedures.

Should we not reach a fair contract tonight, our 250-member @VoxMediaUnion.bsky.social has overwhelmingly authorized a strike. ⏰ @vox.com

Lots of awful things happening this week, but I'm still rooting for @voxmediaunion.bsky.social to secure a fair contract!

Their win helps establish industry standard practices (basic job protections against AI, higher salary floors, layoff policies, etc.), and ensures a brighter future in media.

"We stand in solidarity with the unionized journalists at Vox Media as they fight for a contract that includes their colleagues at The Dodo, and addresses inflation, rising healthcare costs, critical Al protections, and other essential workplace issues.
We're disappointed the Company will not agree to the Union's reasonable demands for a fair layoff process - one that would give employees notice and allow for the Union and Company to work together to avoid unnecessary job loss.
Vox Media has a tradition of respectable ana thriving journalism, and it's surprising that the Company will not commit to protecting the journalists responsible for this work from replacement by Al.
We call on the Company to agree to a contract that will protect worker wages, benefits, and a sense of security at work."

The statement comes as Writers Guild of America East members at Vox Media are bargaining for a new union contract before their current agreement expires at
11:59 pm ET on June 12.
Workers are asking for economic gains that address rising cost of living and healthcare expenses, critical Al protections, basic checks and balances on management's ability to lay off members without a fair process, and improved severance.
In addition, the 250- member bargaining unit is demanding the Company recognize the inclusion of the Vox Media vertical The Dodo into our bargaining unit, which management has rejected for over a year without any valid justification.
