we’ll see how his mayoral tenure shakes out but i am convinced that Mamdani has the juice. not just the charisma to win an election but the temperament to govern and the measured pragmatism of someone who genuinely believes what they’re saying and wants to accomplish real things.

I’d also add there’s plenty of reporting to the effect that Israeli leaders expected to be reined in by the US much sooner than they were (to the extent they ever were reined in)

Of course it was reckless. I’m objecting to your framing, both in the OP and in the post I replied to, which ascribes to Hamas responsibility for the actions of others. That’s not how responsibility works

nearly half said they were unsafe at the time of inspection. violence in british prisons makes the rehabilitation of prisoners which is their (purported) aim much more difficult to achieve.

that somebody, even someone who committed the most depraved, unspeakable crimes, can be murdered in prison, is a problem. The last inspection of HMP Wakefield found that violent incidents had increased, and that 3 quarters of prisoners reported feeling unsafe at some point of their time there

New: Bari Weiss booked Hillary Clinton, Mike Pompeo, and Antony Blinken for a roundtable on Gaza, her first major move at CBS.

Notably on a CBS call today in which the panel was floated, one producer also repeatedly emphasized the need to hear from Palestinians in Gaza (Weiss did not respond).
