Hiya!
My name's Halley & I'm working on a YA fantasy mystery series & 2 adult fantasy romcoms. I'm also working on 2 contemporary WIPs under a pen name. I love blending humor with dark themes & writing about diverse characters in alternate versions of the UK. Let's be pals 🥰

It's absolutely wild to me that a book I wrote for the love of my life (@pegasusunder.bsky.social, if you didn't already know) woven through the language of flowers and two Jane Austen characters who frankly NEEDED their sapphic freedom, already has over 800 ratings on Goodreads.

What plot structure are you using? I found this one on Karen Woodward's site and I really love it; it was a total game-changer for me 💛

Four Acts In Point Form:

Act One (first 25%)
- The inciting incident occurs (/the hook).
- Establish the (initial) stakes.
- The lock in: something happens to up the stakes just before we break into Act Two.

Act Two (25% to 49%)
- The hero comes up with a plan, a way to solve the problem or a way to approach the problem. If this is a murder mystery, it is a way to find out who is the murderer.
- Put the plan into action.
- The plan fails. Everything the hero and his companions thought they knew was wrong. Back to square one.

Act Three (50% to 74%)
- The hero and his/her companions tries to recover from the calamitous events of Act Two. They try to come up with a new approach.
- Everything keeps getting worse for the hero and his companions. The opposing force increases.
- The stakes are raised.
- By the end of Act Three it seems as though the hero has lost.

Act Four (75% on)
- New plan
- Solve the problem.
- Attain the goal.
- By the end of Act Four equilibrium is restored and we're back to the Ordinary World of Act One, ready for another adventure.

Interestingly, though, Bane-mask guy doesn’t seem to indulge in any entertainment at all. His interests are mainly business, politics, law and the environment. So I’m thinking that his issues mainly came from buying into some incel ideology, probably as a rejection coping mechanism 🙃 (2/2)

Yeah I think unused connections can account for SO many issues. If a dude indulges in a lot of male-oriented entertainment that's fine - nothing wrong with that - but reading or doing some other intellectual stuff as well would definitely help 😅 (1/2)

Now I’m wondering if this weird strategy has ever worked for him too. I knew a guy who tried to ask me out after telling me that I’m 'a boring woman with a meaningless life' so these things really shouldn’t surprise me, but they always do 😅
