For the past few years, I've been working on an Art Community & Alternate Reality Game (ACARG?) called GRAVITY BREAK. (gravitybreak.media) It's not social media, it is a god damn Web Site. It's a streetpunk game for artists, inspired by Neopets and Battle of the Bits, etc.
Gravity Break cover art, featuring four characters on a dark highway against a white void, with some kind of weird tendrils with eyes creeping over the edge

don't worry! i have faith that things will get materially worse for everyone before "after" happens
gravitybreak.media
it's vague because it's not clear what you're referencing when you say "these liberals" and "this nonsense". you might be referring to will stancil, but he's one guy saying one thing, so i don't know what all else you're talking about
gravitybreak.media
should be a comma between "yourself" and "thursday"
gravitybreak.media
this is a really vague statement so i don't know what you're referring to

happy don't kill yourself thursday to all who celebrate
gravitybreak.media
it's literally an opposition to the right! it's one of the few unambiguous examples of left/liberal unity! not wanting kings is like, one of the most common values outside of the right wing

no suibot i'm a newhalf

i would never suggest that Old Ways Bad New Ways Good, but the idea that satoshi tojiri fucking nailed it in 1996 when he made an RPG for the game boy and nothing should be different about the series 30 years later has been up my ass for. well, 30 years
gravitybreak.media
yeah no for sure. i agree. if anything, my approach would be less bolting on feature X and more like violently ripping off features Y, Z, Q, F, and M, and telling a 2025 game development team to fill in the gaps with something that feels right
gravitybreak.media
i guess the disagreement here is that you feel these decisions are necessarily rooted in what the game is trying to express, and i just can't agree because I've played other video games that execute on these ideas better, and even "necessary" fundamentals moved on from in various series
gravitybreak.media
again, this doesn't make sense as a reply because visual shorthand that doesn't interrupt flow can also stay onscreen permanently, or there can be a battle log - even in Z-A the text roughly stays onscreen during an animation

these things can exist together! it's not the only way to make it work!
gravitybreak.media
this doesn't make sense as a response to the thing i said! but i don't blame you if you're just bored by my argument

like, i think the game generally shouldn't have cutscenes either (many other ways to convey story), but it insists on it for since reason
gravitybreak.media
for example, (and i would not advocate voice acting as a solution to this) it's crazy that the game still has giant text boxes in battle saying "X used Y! And then this happened!" "It's super effective! [only pokemon players know what this means]" when all of this could be expressed in shorthand
gravitybreak.media
the conclusion to this is that pokemon's script presentation needs to be entirely changed. which is what i believe

i think i've finally cracked something i didn't have words for all this time: the zelda developers need to stop playing video games and start exploring abandoned buildings
gravitybreak.media
i might be wrong\
they're aware of all the cool things you might find in a valley. mesas. caves. rivers. waterfalls. tall grass. flower fields.

but when it comes to a city, they're like "uhh i guess there's streets, and building walls? streets and building walls. occasionally a lamp post or a tree"
gravitybreak.media
i might still get it because i inherently like the gameplay of arceus and wanna play the evolution of those concepts. but like mario kart world, the premise made me soyjack and the execution made me go "wait, have you never played other video games that do this?"
gravitybreak.media
i do not feel this way at all, so my perspective would definitely be closer to yours if i did
gravitybreak.media
something about the combination of the uninspired city exploration (these fucks don't love cities like i do I CAN TELL), plus the lack of an X factor in the trailers, plus the tax I'm paying for having bought a switch 2 in the first place... it's not insurmountable, but they all combine into a bleh
gravitybreak.media
I've been excited to get Z-A since its announcement, and now that it's suddenly out and i have money at the same time, i find myself like... I'm not sure I'm gonna buy it. that's crazy. i really didn't think I'd be here.
gravitybreak.media
i agree with the complaint I'm sorry

i know people have feelings about voice acting being inherently unnecessary for some reason, but it's either that or one of the dozen other things they could do to bunp up the presentation
gravitybreak.media
I've been mentally attacked by having to make so many on-model sprites, so letting loose with something that doesn't have a model should help i think
gravitybreak.media
i can't believe it never occurred to me until now that i should make concept sketches for GB locations
gravitybreak.media
i wonder if straight carpenters looking at baphy comics wouldn't even understand what they're about or why the dragon is acting weird
