Littondale is a classic u-shaped glacial valley off Upper Wharfedale. The shallow River Skirfare meanders across the farmed valley floor and disappears below ground for much of the year north of the hamlet of Litton.

Situated on what was the turnpike route from Sheffield to Chapel-en-le-Frith and Buxton in the Sheffield village of Ringinglow. This somewhat extravagant tollhouse was erected in 1778. An octagonal turret, of three stories and in the Gothic style of the period.
