good morning from this food not bombs south philly ig caption i like

“the things you do together will change you both”
foodnotbombs.southphilly IG post caption that reads:

“you do not have to perfect your theory before you act. you do not need perfect orthodoxy with everyone you meet. the things you do together will change you both.

you do not need to have read a particular book to understand that hungry people need food, that unsheltered people need homes, or that care and access to basic needs are the right of every living person.

you do not need lived experience to make community with people who live in addiction or with disability or mental illness or any other state of being. but you should listen to what people with these experiences say they need.

it doesn't cost money to empathize. and it's free to act on that empathy at any time.
the only barrier to change is the inaction of people who know better. mutual aid isn't a luxury to give or receive. it's easy and it sustains. dm us to find out more.”

I am deeply in awe at the courage of my neighbors in the face of such horrific threats of violence.

Same group? Is that a pistol being pointed at the guy in blue?

One thing I want you to take from videos like this is the absolute cacophony of whistles and screams of "GET THE FUCK OUT OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD" from people in the streets and in buildings. And more and more people are at that point every day.

ICE/Border Patrol held a weapon on a guy who was demanding they show him their face in Rogers Park today
gochujung.bsky.social
(FWIW my reply isn’t meant to be snarky but very sincerely I have little to add and am not going to place any responsibility for escalation on protestors)
gochujung.bsky.social
It started bc ISP had been enacting random violence throughout the day and then continued escalating thru late afternoon. I have little to add about yesterday at Broadview that I or @unraveledpress.com @peoplesfabric.com @mulchy.bsky.social haven’t already shared.

Any time families come to deliver meds to the detention center now, someone shoves a camera + mic in their face. A few days ago we watched reporters do this to someone while crying. People don't realize they don't have to consent to it, so they go along with it.

These journos are not seeing Heaven

Yesterday, Don Lemon interrupted patient care for a visibly sensitive situation by shoving a mic in a patient’s face then getting annoyed at me when I swatted it out of the way & told him it was inappropriate. Yes, protests should be documented but no, they are not “content” & there is a difference.

I’m so sorry to see this Sunah! I’m a little too injured today to be of any use in a rapid response role but do you know if folks need chem weapons aftercare support, whether for bodies or home spaces?

another day of border patrol and ice terrorizing chicago—and of spontaneous community resistance.

they tear-gassed community members on a residential street in albany park. they pulled a gun on a rapid responder in rogers park.

they abducted people from alleys and parking lots and train stations.

As I drove through my neighborhood to an appt, ~85% of the ppl I saw out & about were wearing orange whistles or armbands, many friends & comrades included. Whether on foot, bike, scooter, or car, these grassroots neighborhood efforts are supporting safety in ways that policing never have or will.

ICE is once again all over the Far North Side of Chicago today. Amidst all the horrifying news of multiple abductions, neighborhood migra watch was able to prevent someone from getting taken by being present, alert, and ready. I deeply appreciate my neighbors and their rapid response efforts.

Living between the abject horror of state violence and the sweetness of the solidarity we are all building to face said violence—canvassing our neighborhoods with KYR literature, migra watch shifts, signal chats full of love and outrage. Thank God for everyone stepping up to meet this moment.

Okay morning rant over. Time to recover from injury to the dulcet background tones of the helicopter that’s been over my neighborhood for at least the past hour and a half.
gochujung.bsky.social
Final point: I understand why ppl want to shout things like “do your job” as they demand various policing forces arrest each other. But by protecting the state & property, & repressing dissent, they are in fact doing their only job, which is to make way for racialized capitalism & authoritarianism.
gochujung.bsky.social
Livestreamers, TikTokers, & others who aren’t skilled in how to capture what’s happening without indiscriminately capturing faces at the least and further incriminating protestors at the worst are a liability otg.

Another observation: there are A LOT of ppl otg in Chicago who might be considered “press” but are so clearly NOT protest or mov’t media. Among other things, either I or medic buddy have had to explicitly stop photogs & journos from interfering with & recording patient care 3x in just the past wk.
gochujung.bsky.social
As medics, we regularly look out for what may “raise the temperature” in a protest. In addition to a broader array of weapons, they also had dozens more flex cuffs on belts than I’d previously seen. ISP came ready to escalate whether the crowd was going to or not, & started to do so before “curfew”.
gochujung.bsky.social
ISP specifically threatened chem weapons last night, where prev it had only been arrest. The # of ISP with pepper ball guns increased by 300%, one had a rubber bullet gun, & several had pepper spray cans. At one point, a tear gas canister fell on the ground but didn’t detonate.
gochujung.bsky.social
I’m grateful for the federal TRO banning ICE use of chem weapons against protestors & media, & hate that the plaintiffs had to experience violence & harm in the first place for it to be issued but it leaves major gaps when local & state forces begin to take over.

every time we’re out here we see new types of cops.

looks like the illinois department of correction’s tactical team is also here on site.

background: www.chicagoreporter.com/new-uniforms...
two cops in dark blue uniforms stand next to another cop wearing a blue polo a close-up of one officer’s patch. it reads “tactical dept corrections. illinois sort.”

I spent time medicking otg yesterday in Broadview, and yes things were absolutely as chaotic and violent as this video depicts, especially stuck in the middle of it as ISP stampeded at protestors with batons raised. At one point, they opened their line just to drag someone away. Terrifying.
unraveledpress.com
Troopers just violently attacked protesters, tackled several, several arrests, shoving activists and press with batons.
gochujung.bsky.social
I’m currently standing next to Don Lemon giving air to pro-ICE MAGAs as though they could be persuaded or have anything else important to share. We are truly living in the stupidest timeline.
gochujung.bsky.social
Yes, I actually want to live in a world where it is possible to gain social capital from doing justice and bearing witness in your particular lane, so that financial capital isn’t so dependent on the regurgitation of fear, nihilism, cruelty to sustain itself.

masked federal agents have been on a tear through chicago neighborhoods today—enabled in no small part by the state + local cops now running security for ice in broadview.

at least 2 people abducted in cicero, 2 in humboldt park/hermosa, 3 in garfield ridge. sightings in schaumburg + hanover park.

More vehicles with masked Border Patrol agents inside departing. It's a busy, busy morning for the secret police.

People here have been periodically begging local police to stop them, to "do something." One protester is crying.

Another caravan (including the ICE SUV) departs. Seeing more Border Patrol inside.
