Consonance and Dissonance” — Structural elements along the High Line Park, Manhattan.

The title references musical concepts of the terms — creating tension or stasis.

That's great, Beth. I'm hoping to be there near the beginning of the month, too.

That helps. There are two places “locally“ (liberally defined) where I can find fog. One is, as you mention, on hills where those low clouds become fog… and where there are trees! The other is a 2 hour drive into a location with regular tule fog (and birds!) in the winter.

It is a strange — and universal — feeling to recognize how much time has passed, and how its passage has changed each of us.

These photographs by Damian Ward make me wish I lived in a place with even more fog! (I’m in the SF Bay Area, though our fog is often more of the “low coastal clouds” type.)

It's nice to see the misty mornings coming back to me, the last few days have been great.

Here is an image from a few weeks ago, as I haven't looked at my recent images.

My favorite time to photograph Yosemite Valley is when there is snow on the ground. (Beth Young photograph.)

Second favorite? Possibly when the dogwoods and maples change to autumn colors.

During a winter storm last season, #Yosemite Valley was shrouded in #fog and precipitation, hiding many iconic peaks, creating an opportunity to focus on smaller scenes, like this scene of sugar pines and Sierra granite boulders dusted with #snow. Hopeful for more conditions like this in the West!

From one of the (several) other photographers in my family.

I’ve photographed Skagit Valley a few times, and especially enjoyed it when the trumpeter swans were there.

I traveled up to the Skagit flats in WA this afternoon. Too early for the snow geese and the swans, and fall colors haven't really kicked in yet, but it was a beautiful day! (Mt. Baker is the snow covered peak in the photo on the right.

I get a kick from watching the follower count increment and approach a new threshold. Almost at 4.9K… which is almost at 5K. Hey, I’m grateful for followers — thanks!

Thanks Christoph. This is a sort of image that appeals to me, minimal and suggestive on one level, though literal on another.

(On the other hand, such images can be a hard sell with many viewers...)

… Nevada. I can’t understand the details of all of these stories (I’m not a geologist!) but I understand some of the themes. One is the constant wearing down and eroding of the highest peaks, a process that eventually transports rocks far from their source. And when this happens…

Rock Isle Lake can be seen to the left. I made this photograph from a viewing platform at the Sunshine Meadows area of Banff National Park. I took a gondola up the Sunshine Village and hiked from there. The photo was taken with a Nikon and a 300mm lens.

Normal people stay away from that location when the tule fog arrives, but that’s my cue to go there! I love photographing in foggy conditions.
