Even in open source, very often when vulnerabilities are disclosed, the reporters haven't even looked at the code. The normal process to find them isn't to read the code, and they still find problems. If getting your code makes that easier in a significant way, your security posture is "who cares".
Was just in London, and one of the major tube stations had a sign about how the elevator there would be out of service for 11 months. No alternative.

Of course, here in Portland, Trimet just pretends the elevator will be fixed next week.
Lemme also mention Buttondown, which is a fully hosted platform, and non-nazi.
I adore how every new computer technology is ultimately used for porn.

I feel like folks could avoid a lot of faffing about by simply planning for the porn in the first place.

1/ Last Friday, 1300 CDC employees were fired. The next day, about half were reportedly reinstated. While this is better news than we all expected, I'm worried that people aren't fully aware of what's at stake if we lose these initiatives. So, I'm breaking down my experience in one of these programs

(aside) I've seen this, though. Way back there was a place in LA called Ali's Chicken which didn't serve chicken.

They'd opened it as a Lebanese chicken rotisserie. But, found that they actually sold mostly felafel and schwarma. So, when the chicken rotisserie broke, they didn't fix it.

Anyone saying they’re not racially profiling is unserious
Narrator: In fact, he discovered that they did serve burritos. And nothing else.
Asking for recommendations, part XVIII:

"Can anyone recommend a Mexican restaurant that doesn't serve burritos?"

1st reply: "Have you tried Jose's Burritos?"

4/ Over the weekend, about 1,300 CDC employees received an email saying they were fired.
No notice.
No time to plan.
Just deactivated badges.
The justification was a “reduction in force”—a bureaucratic term being used as a political pawn in the broader Congressional shutdown fight.

1/ Bird flu is back, and more than 4.4 million birds have been sick in the past month. The uptick has been detected among backyard flocks, commercial farms, and wild birds. Katelyn here, Your Local Epidemiologist, and here’s what you need to know about this and other #publichealth news this week 👇

1. Last night, John Oliver destroyed Bari Weiss and specifically called out her inaccurate and targeted coverage of transgender people.

It's the latest of several shows Oliver has done in defense of trans people.

Weiss at CBS is a disaster for trans people.

A word of caution:
if you try to write someone
about the Stratus variant
you may find
that autocorrect turns
“Stratus” into status,
so please keep that in mind
for Stratus is the variant
and the status
is that far too many people have it.

GoFundMe wanted to build a service to help groups fundraise for social projects and then it became a backstop to our broken healthcare system.

It looks like they are now a backstop for our broken system when it comes to food insecurity especially given cuts and the tanking economy.

In 1503, Christopher Columbus shipwrecked on Jamaica. The native Taino received the stranded Spaniards with hospitality and supported them for nearly a year of being marooned.

In return, Columbus came back in 1504 with armed ships and enslaved them.

Thanks. I wasn't brave enough to try to master being on the wrong side of the road in heavy London traffic, but maybe next time.

My personal rankings of bike hire schemes in central London:

3. Santander. Cheapest, but hardest to pay for & dock, & no phone holder. Best lights though.

2. Lime. Most ubiquitous, very easy to use, but a bit pricey.

1. Forest. Easy to find, hire, and park. Good pricing. Apparently most “green.”
Ah, OK, I was worried that the brakes would come on.
I did wonder about Forest's "10 minutes free" though. What happens at the end of 10 minutes if you're on the road?
