"'Tell us about Mafeking Night,' said Kay. 'One gets sick of these discussions about right and wrong.'

'Mafeking Night...', began the magician, who was prepared to tell anybody about anything. But the King prevented him."

- *The Queen of Air and Darkness*, T.H. White, 1939

I got blocked for this? I didn't even post Pigpoopballs. Pathetic.

Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. All I'm saying is, you're very upset about the reputation of a candidate for one of several thousand mayoral positions in the US, whose victory will only mean it's his turn to be taken hostage by the cops and sign whatever the city's *real* power-brokers hand him.

You are much too emotionally invested in a guy who won a sub-county-level primary by default, because his opponents were "corrupt ex-cop who talks in Mad Libs", and "rampant molester who got all his constituents' grandparents killed".

A few months ago, I salvaged some edging-stones from under the house and stacked them up on the porch. I finally got around to placing them...but in the process I accidentally crushed a baby gecko who must have been sleeping between two of the rocks. I'm kinda bummed about it.

Perhaps this is a joke account, and we've all been pranked.

The War on Terror proved our military's whole leadership cadre -- from Powell and Petraeus and Mattis, right down to Hegseth and Buttigieg and DeSantis -- are a bunch of ass-kissing resume-padding careerists, who never gave a damn about the good of the country or their oaths of service.
friendatarms.bsky.social
Frankly, I think we are 20 years too late to be worrying about that.
friendatarms.bsky.social
Since he is taking personal credit, the fear is that servicemembers will feel more loyal to him than to "the country" or "democracy" or "oaths of service", in the event those ideals come into open conflict with Trump's goals.

There is no Continuing Appropriations Act this time around. So instead, Trump decided to redirect already-existing DoD funds (apparently for weapons research) into servicemembers' paychecks.
friendatarms.bsky.social
In a government shutdown, the military is legally required to keep working without being paid. The last time we had a shutdown, Congress passed a special "Continuing Appropriations Act" that funded the military anyway (except for the Coast Guard, who were just screwed). So it didn't matter.

Oh the ancient Greeks LOVED these hats. It was their version of a sun-hat. The god Hermes wore one, with little tiny wings on it. And paintings of "wandering hero" types (Oedipus and Odysseus for sure, maybe a few others) usually show them wearing a petasos.

Okay well, that just circles back around to your original error in reading comprehension. So I guess we're done here!

To say Biden was "less curious and creative than the Trump administration" does not imply that Trump is a "good faith actor". It could even be read (and probably should be) to imply the opposite: that Trump is a *bad faith* actor, but Biden was either less competent, or acting in even worse faith.

Did the OP actually claim that? Or did you assume, once again, that any criticism of Biden means approval of Trump? I'm giving you one chance to make a case based in actual reality before I mute you. (Frankly, given the ♨️ in your name, even that's probably being too generous.)

You accused the OP of "playing Brazzers music for a glorified fraud" and called another commenter a "fellow-traveler bootlicker". You were wrong about that. Own it.

I'm sorry, but you failed at reading comprehension here, and I'm not going to humor your attempt to wiggle out of it. You assumed any criticism of Biden meant approval of Trump.

I can't tell if my reply to you was too grouchy. If it was, I apologize.
friendatarms.bsky.social
You know, I was feeling grumpy for Personal Reasons when I posted that, and maybe I was too mean. Biden *did* make an honest-to-goodness federal holiday for Juneteenth (although I think the execution could have used some work). It's not implausible to think he might have done it a second time.

brian, you are unwell. your mind is an incoherent miasma of half-remembered trivia, delusions of moral crusade, and a fundamental non-understanding of compassion. you are antagonistic and believe your proximity to black people absolves you of your harassment. this is unhealthy and embarrassing.

I am just so so glad that somebody else recognizes "giving away THAAD batteries" is a pretty big deal.
