All phenomena are fleeting. He/him. For those who don't know me from other social media sites: Waffles (Waf) is the name of our dog, not the name of my husband. [Update: Waf was. Marlowe is now our dog's name, not my husband's. Waf is now a name for love.]

It does occur to me the kid with the blue bucket might actually feel less pressure because of it, and not stress about the adults expecting them to do cute banter before getting their treat. But still: adults, just give the kids the candy and let the kids take the lead if they want to say anything.
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
Okay also, like, as an adult of a certain age, the kid could be wearing literally anything--a costume or their usual clothes--and I would assume they're dressed up as something because I have no clue. Who cares? 18 year old with a pillowcase for a bag? Sure, have some candy. It's Halloween.

I meant I worry about kid actors in intense movies and TV shows. But now I saw ep 2 and jfc you stupid kid.
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
I think about this a lot more than I should.

Also as much as I love Kay--and Diane Keaton--her role in the film MADE NO SENSE except just because she was Diane Fucking Keaton and they wanted her in the movie.

Good lord. First off, Sophia's casting wasn't the worst casting choice. Francis should've ponied up the dough and paid Robert Duvall what he was asking for. Also, the script was terrible, and Coppola only made it bc Paramount was gonna do a sequel anyway, with or without him.

Pick a movie that could have been great. Recast ONE role to fix it.

Mine is "The Godfather- Part 3," recasting Sophia Coppola (great director, but should not have been given this role) with Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Yes, and doing an admirable job. And it is not at all the point--I was making a reference to Nazis but now I'm curious how the train tracks go past a Tesla dealership, beside the ICE nightmare, and somehow misses both the Oregon Ballet Theatre AND the Spaghetti factory. But nvm. NOT THE POINT.
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
I now have so many more questions.
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
I was thinking the shots of the railways into Auschwitz but that works too.
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
Ok but the railroad track shot at the end certainly reminds me of some other very specific imagery from a different time.
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
Omg. So we've got rain, we've got fire, and we've got steroids. Anything else from a Michael Bay film and this image itself would explode.
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
OH of course. I was thinking it was a cutesy radio station or something.
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
I've watched the first episode and it's very good. I'm not sure I wanted a surprise kid as a major plot-point--narratively okay but I'm now worried about the logistics and mental health of the kid.

Did you, like, expose it to sunlight or just keep it in a basement?

(I'm kidding--please know I am certain you ventured out into the light with it at least once.)

I have family visiting from AL this weekend, and we've agreed to meet on Saturday at the Cloisters. Two things: the No Kings rally will be taking over midtown, and this exhibit will be opening at the Cloisters. I'm sure they'll be fine, but it's gonna be quite a day www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/...

Sorry. It was a 'scow or ark'. Not really a boat.

To be fair, they know they don’t need to sign.

Interesting that Marc Maron's last WTF interview was today and his last guest was Obama, who did a charactically measured summation of the Trump years without mentioning his name, and now we have Clinton and Biden totally handing it to Trump. All three need to be more dismissive at the VERY least.
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
The studio audience was, so far as we know, alive when we began filming this episode.
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
If I recall--and I do not very well--it was a TBS show in the US back when TBS did scripted sitcoms. Was it a CBC thing?

The cast of the original 'Annie' with... I dunno, a revival of 'Oliver!'?
formergregsamsa.bsky.social
Maybe that was the problem with the original run. People kept falling asleep to it.

The trailblazing transgender rights activist Miss Major has passed away at the age of 78.

Miss Major was a lifelong organizer and participant in the ballroom scene. She took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots and was injured by the police — but she kept fighting.

Was waiting to see how Olivia Reingold (who Oliver's piece destroyed almost as much as Bari Weiss) would respond, and you can see the tweet below which also shows she either did not watch his piece, or just didn't understand it, since he actually addresses this point directly.
Olivia Reingold quote tweeting Variety.

The Variety tweet is about John Oliver's piece on Bari Weiss leading CBS News, saying:

John Oliver slams Bari Weiss' takeover of CBS News:

"I wouldn’t want anyone who led a pure opinion outlet, not even one that I happened to agree with, to suddenly be running CBS News. But it is especially alarming to have someone doing it who has spent years putting out work that, in my opinion, is at best irresponsible and at worst deeply misleading."

Reingold then quotes it saying:

Why does this sound like John Oliver commenting on……John Oliver
