I hate bios. Plenty of interests (music, books, tech etc) and curious about loads more but trying to keep news/political engagement here to a minimum. Profile pic by me: Pollok Park, Glasgow.

A couple of my pics here - sadly I wasn't around for the bonfires at the end of the festival, but I did get to attend a Mascleta!

A lot of them are quite abstract and it can be hard or even impossible to tell what they're supposed to depict. I can pick some themes from the second pic below but am totally clueless about the first.
In Valencia, Spain, Las Fallas festival marks the arrival of spring in March. Each neighbourhood create a grotesque sculpture, a Ninot, representing bad things or people from the past year. The Ninots then get burnt, fire as a symbol of purification and renewal.

Why do they burn the statues in Las Fallas de Valencia?
Today we are going to tell you about Las Fallas de Valencia, one of the most famous festivities in the whole peninsula. Have you ever heard of the fallas celebrations? Do you know why the statues are ...

Isn’t technology wonderful? Back in the 80s, people could only listen with disgust as Frank Drebin went to the toilet with his radio mic still switched on. NOW we get the whole thing in video.

One of my local councillors. Who couldn't have been more patronising the time I met him hoping he'd help fight against a planning decision... years ago but schadenfreude when I saw the pic after reading the headline about "a councillor"

sorry but this is a valuable service for those of us who walk to *get to places* and do so at a pace.
nothing wrong with shining a spotlight on inconsiderate walkers.
@wyrdwednesday.bsky.social I was in Valencia, Spain for a couple of days during Las Fallas festival and it fits this week's theme perfectly - so hopefully someone local posts about it, otherwise I'll try and find a good link to share.
And exploding sandwiches of mass destruction in between the two, truly a good day.

Now planning for the "Life in the UK" test. Has anyone got a copy of the book? I found a PDF but would like to check it's legit.

Please share!

Having said that, that is no excuse for the largest cloud providers not to implement water cooling. They could totally afford water-cooled DCs instead of building new air-cooled DCs powered by dirty gas plants.
Insane that there's no standard for liquid cooling - its widespread adoption in datacenters is desperately needed, but liquid cooled HW from different manufacturers will require different size pipes. I don't even know if the requirements for the liquid vary across manufacturers, could be.
The University of Glasgow groundspeople are going to be quite annoyed when they come in to work tomorrow...
I like that the blog shows values in hours too, sometimes they convey the gloom even better.

But please get rid of that new design. Current: I see all the detailed info on a single screen for a 14 hours timescale.
New: only 6 hours in the same width, scrolling down and clicking to get any details.
I should have picked the apple cinnamon old fashioned. I'll have to go back another day while it's still on the menu.
Hate November, hate Mondays, trying to make today a little better by treating myself to steak + chips from the local steakhouse and a doughnut from Tantrum.
Likely to skip dinner tonight now.
Still in Nantes? I haven't spent much time there, but it certainly has its quirks. Quirky calm moments make sense in that context too.
Residents in Shawlands have been left devastated after the owners of orange tabby Freddie, who was fondly dubbed the mayor of Shawlands by locals, revealed he'd passed away aged 20.

Very sad news from Shawlands. RIP Freddie.
I helped at a school's careers fair yesterday and we had one big fail in that we'd brought Haribo sweets.

Unlikely there'll be kids chapping at this tenement door tonight but it's happened before, so just in case, I stocked up on VEGAN (and therefore halal and kosher too) sweets.
