Farewell My Concubine is fantastic. Great choice!
The Summer Hikaru Died treats places as alive, true to its folktale origins. A place is 'alive' with qualities, making it a moving, working and 'breathing' 'life form', in its own right. Akin to the body and body organs, it's fed to keep on, as vessel and blood feed nutrients. It may also be killed.
The Summer Hikaru Died is a showcase of mouths, what passes through them as a location of excesses or indulgences, which cross and breach any boundaries. Gossip is not only invasive but also a distortion that turns an idiosyncrasy into a discourse of disease; a devouring, it steals someone's agency.

To all who wryte storyes & poemes, to everyone who doth wryte scriptes & screenplayes, to those who make art of all kyndes, and to those who designe and performe yn daunse, and theatre -- thanke yow. Whethir you make for a few friendes or an audience of millions, thanke yow. You helpe us all.
Yoshiki's avowal "I'll suffer your sins with you" is a Mikasaesque promise, so we may compare Mikasa's unconditional love for Eren to Yoshiki's for Hikaru. Unconditional in the sense Yoshiki's 'feeling' is fully cognizant of conditions, their cost and burden to him; and yet, is moved to bear them.

This cute short animation by Giulia Rosa encourages us to see how we can sit with our inner demons, finding that space for them to exist with us rather than trying to push them away.

The Summer Hikaru Died is seeing that difficult juxtaposition of the monstrous and the benevolent, embodied in Hikaru. Incredible to imagine how the monstrous that devours the life and warmth of humans for its survival is the selfsame slave to human wishes, a creature of giving, almost benevolent.

The Summer Hikaru Died involves a lot of piercing, breaking or entering into, which is either a violation or consensual. The former is an infestation, as from an 'impurity' or a virus, which adulterates and can prove fatal. The latter is a merging or 'mixing', a last-resort attachment or intimacy.
It goes on: "What humanity had they shown to this boy?" "So how had they not expected it?"

Levi mulls over these questions, as his conscience pangs and makes him realize how they themselves created this 'monster'; he does so with much compassion.

The fic is good, so far. All credit to the author.
Glad someone realizes how Eren was, to an extent, the making of the people around him, the burden they placed on him, for one.

One offense is Eren, a human, is bestowed the ability to see past and future: a sense of 'complete time'. No mortal will be able to survive it, not without harm to sanity. And while given a god's power to see, he nevertheless has a human's powerlessness to 'fate' and human's accountability.
Attack on Titan's tragedy is anchored on specific offenses that violate what can be humanly handled and naturally allowed. They're the driving force of the story's dilemma and pain, and Eren Jaeger's fall. It calls into question what can be borne and committed by humans before the collective breaks.

他者との強い絆が必ずしも「romance」である必要はありません。この作品ではヒカル(モンスター)とよしきの関係を明確に「romance」として描いてはいません。そしてこの関係性が「romanticかPlatonicか」というのは物語の焦点ではありません。
Well, actually, yes. I find it romantic, too, mostly in a silently sweet and delicate way. They constantly seek the other, and when trouble arises, they're roused to protect the other. They keep each other's secret. They long to know and touch intimately the other. The sea scene only confirms these!
I only know until the manga's vol. 6, where the anime ends, but I can humbly say a bond grows between Yoshiki and Nonuki/Hikaru, based on growing trust and protectiveness of the other. A bond need not be typically romantic to be significant. Their bond is forged only between them, making it special.

Yoshiki begins by being shocked, as he holds on to departed Hikaru. It's grief and a bit of desperation, as he barely tolerates the new Hikaru, and curiosity too. He then turns repulsed, and feels guilt, by new Hikaru's presence. But then slowly, he's drawn to the monster, a pull he little resists.

The morning rain blurred the streets of Naples, softening even the sharp edges of stone, yet Bruno’s perfume lingered, tickling his nostrils with basil and vetiver, a slight, austere touch of leather.

The other rainy day in Naples, will I remember this?

Another one I love about The Summer Hikaru Died is how as a horror, it's constantly inundated by luminous daylight, making everything vivid, alive, and lifelike. It's as though the horrors we conceal are, in fact, under broad daylight, hidden in plain sight. Which make them invisibly visible; there.
