Mihoshi doesn't have that backstory in Universe or Tokyo, its only the OVAs.

I think Tenchi in Tokyo feels like a shock if you roll right off of Universe. Its different, its lower budget, & they make weird faces.

Its also a deconstruction. They already feel like a family at the start, and the drama comes from tearing that family apart.

It works as a response to TM tropes.

I go back and forth with how much weight I put into OVA 3 era revelations from Kajishima, since they were written without the other OVA1 writer and director.

I've wondered if Mihoshi is on the spectrum. She rambles, misreads a lot of social cues, her police report took the GP days to summarize, she's obsessed with kids tv shows, and she's treated as a burden by most characters.

Her backstory is also gifted kid to burnout pipeline.

Ironically, RE7 is the most name accurate the series has ever been. Its about a specific residence and its inhabitants being exposed to a biohazard. The official name even swaps the subtitle between regions, so its Biohazard: Resident Evil in Japan.

It is amusing that the PS2 is their point of reference, because it either paints them as embarrassingly old to be complaining about game graphics or regurgitating the same tired discourse with no real frame of reference.

Anyone playing PS2 games in 2025 would have a fondness for its visuals.
