Might be a freak match week, but the batterings dished out in the Champions League this week, the way in which most of the biggest teams have destroyed their opponents, suggests competitive balance (UEFA’s job to address) is now completely out of whack. Ridiculously easy some of these games.

Bert Trautmann, who went from Nazi soldier to Man City goalkeeping legend, was born on this day 1923 in Bremen. Made 508 League appearances for City 1949-64. Famously played on in the 1956 FA Cup Final despite breaking his neck during the match.
