I hope that sofa is comfy, it might be a while before Teddy is allowed back in the bedroom...

I'm interested to know what you think 👀 Did Teddy go too far, or has he got a point?

Thank you for reading! The feed is up to date!

Josie shrugged off his hand, still unable to speak in fear that her last shred of composure would crumble. If she let herself fall apart now, she didn’t know how she would piece herself back together, and so she retreated to their room, closing the door behind her and shutting Teddy out.
All at once, the events of the night hit her like a punch to the gut, knocking the air out of her lungs as tears burned her tired eyes.
Teddy reached for her instinctively, but the fury still coursing through her veins wouldn’t let her accept his comfort, no matter how much she might need it.
Josie glared at her husband, silently daring him to contradict her.
Behind his steely grey eyes, she could almost see the thoughts running through his head, and she knew that nothing she’d said had changed his mind. They could fight about it all night and find themselves no closer to agreeing.
There was the briefest flash of hurt on Teddy’s face before his temper finally boiled over. “Don’t you 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘦 compare me to them! That’s not fair. This is different.”

“No, it’s not! I don’t care what your reasons are, and neither will he. If you try to control him like this, he’ll just resent you.”
“I’m tryin’ to protect him–”

“And locking him up, cutting him off from his friends, is how you wanna do that?”

“If we have to, yeah. That’s what we’ll do.”

“𝘓𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧!” Josie fumed, louder than she intended. “All you’re gonna do is push him away, just like my parents did with me.”
Josie didn’t wait for Teddy’s retort.
“You’ve been looking for an excuse to get rid of Elle from day one,” she snapped, no longer able or willing to hold back. “You can’t dictate who his friends are forever. One day he’ll be old enough to decide for himself, and what d’you think will happen then?”
“Only because he was too anxious to do 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨.”

“Twice, Josie,” Teddy choked out, his voice cracking. “Twice he’s been with her and almost died. I’m not willin’ to risk our son a third time.”

“And you think I am?! Don’t act like you’re the only one who cares about his safety. You’re not.”
Teddy flinched at the word. “I don’t want him ‘round her anymore. She’s a bad influence. He was perfectly happy before he met her, an’ he will be again once he understands why he can't see her.”

“He wasn’t happy, Teddy.”

“He never got in trouble like this when he was hangin’ ‘round with Beau–”
That caught her off guard. Teddy had never admitted the cause of his terrible first impression of their son’s friend.

“She could’ve heard that from anyone–”

“She didn’t. She 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸,” he hissed, hanging onto the counter.. “It’s 𝘸𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘥. Makes sense now we know she’s…”

“A spellcaster.” Josie finished.
Josie took a long sip of her coffee, gripping her mug tightly as Teddy sucked in a shaky breath. When he spoke, his words were slow and quiet, filled with contempt.

“I haven’t liked her since she could tell from one look that I had died, and she’s done nothin’ to change my mind since then.”
Avoiding Teddy's stare, she poured two cups, sliding one across the island towards him – An attempt at a peace-offering before she started the battle.

“I think…” she paused, trying to choose her words carefully. “I think you haven’t liked that girl since you found out she was Malcolm’s niece.”
She didn’t want to do this, not tonight. It had been an endlessly long day, and their nerves were frayed, but delaying the inevitable fight wouldn’t make it any easier.
She pulled away and shuffled to the kitchen to start a pot of coffee, saying nothing as she patiently waited for it to brew.
“Is he?” Teddy questioned through gritted teeth. “‘Cos it don’t seem like he is to me. He’s fuckin’ traumatized, Josie.”

She wanted to disagree, knowing where he was leading, but she couldn’t find the words to try to prove him wrong.

And then, he said it.

“He can’t see her again.”
Closing the bedroom door as quietly as she could, Josie let out the breath she hadn’t realised she was holding, and stepped into her husband's waiting arms.

“He’s safe. He’s okay.” Josie murmured, unsure if she was trying to reassure Teddy or convince herself that it was true. Perhaps both.
“Josie–”

“Not here,” she breathed, gingerly freeing herself from Austin’s grasp.

She knew exactly where this conversation was headed, had been bracing herself for it ever since they’d found out Austin was unharmed and on his way home, and she was certain she didn’t want her son to hear it.
At least Austin seemed mercifully unaware of his father’s strained presence in the room.
Josie had thought it would take an age for him to settle, if he managed to at all, but as she rubbed soothing circles on his back and hummed quietly, his breathing soon slowed, and limbs grew heavy.
Teddy was already waiting in their room when Josie finally carried Austin to their bed, but he looked far from relaxed.
She understood him well enough to know that he wouldn’t want to wait until morning to say what was on his mind, but he could at least wait until their eldest was sleeping.
Austin didn’t speak once whilst Josie got him ready for bed, lovingly wiping away the tear-stained face paint, and dressing him in the Spooky Day pyjamas she’d bought especially for what should have been an evening of wholesome fun.
She wondered if he’d ever tell her the story of what he’d seen.
“Can I sleep in your room?” he whispered, his eyes glassy and unfocused, still swimming with visions of everything he’d seen, no doubt.
He didn’t need to ask; Josie hadn’t planned on letting him out of her sight or her arms. She nodded, squeezing him tight like he might slip away again.
There was a discussion to be had, Josie knew, but she couldn’t face it now. Neither could Austin, who hadn’t moved a muscle since she’d gotten him inside.
“Bathtime and bed, okay, baby?” she insisted, trying to keep her voice light, their routine normal in the midst of a night that was anything but.
She glanced at her husband – barely breathing, still as carved marble, teeth clenched so tight she worried he might shatter them – and knew that all the same scenarios were running through his mind.
He’d been pacing the ranch all night, waiting for news, for their son to be returned home safe.
It was too much for her to process. Spells, demons, a whole other 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘮 she hadn’t known existed when she’d sent her son off for an innocent night at the fair.
She couldn’t think too hard about it, the possibility of what could have happened, the thought of Austin not making it out of that place…
The silence inside the house was heavy and suffocating, strangling any words the reunited family might have wanted to say.
Even if someone had tried to speak, Josie doubted she would have heard it over the way her heart slammed against her ribs and the deafening roar of blood rushing in her ears.
The drama isn't over yet 😬

There's a new Hazelwood legacy update coming later today! You can catch up with the chaos on @alluringsims.bsky.social profile or in the Hazelwood feed.

See you later 👀

Through the window, Austin turned once to look back. For a heartbeat, their eyes met. His expression was uncertain— not angry, not forgiving, just 𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥. Then Josie guided him inside, the door closing softly behind them.

“I just wanted him to see,” Elle whispered to herself.
