My latest for @msnbc.com: The Trump administration's gutting the special education personnel not only betrays people with disabilities; it rolls back the work of four Republican presidents who passed bills for special education (Nixon, Ford, and the Bushes)

Opinion | Trump's mass firings strike a hammer blow against Americans with disabilities
The GOP once supported special education programs. Recent dismissals at the Education Department put an end to that support.

Lauryn Hill just shared a moving tribute to the late D’Angelo:

People need reflection.

I regret not having more time with you. Your undeniable beauty and talent were not of this world, and a presence not of this world needs protection in a world that covets light and the anointing of God. You sir, moved us, stirred us, inspired and even intimidated others to action with your genius. Thank you for being a beacon of light to a generation and beyond who had no
remembrance of the legacy that preceded us. Thank you for charting the course and for making
space during a time when no similar space really existed.
You imaged a unity of strength and sensitivity in Black manhood to a generation that only saw itself as having to be one or the other. It is my earnest prayer that you are in peace, far away from selfishness, fear and/or controlling interests. Far from possessiveness, far from greed, far from manipulation, far from exploitation, far from intentionally designed chaos and that you Brother are in peace, in bliss and in eternal light and fulfillment with our Father in heaven. I Love you and I miss you. May God grant peace and shelter to your family, true friends and genuine appreciators, Brother, King. A photo of Lauryn Hill and D’Angelo, wearing black

For all of the people who have urged the American news media to stand together in the face of the Trump admin's attacks – it's happening right now. All the major networks are speaking out against the Pentagon's new press restrictions:

CAPE VERDE, POPULATION 560,000, QUALIFY FOR A FIRST-EVER WORLD CUP 🇨🇻

The second-smallest nation ever to achieve that feat. Every US state has a bigger population, yet the Blue Sharks are on their way to football's big dance. Astonishing and inspiring 🦈

Cervical cancer is one of few cancers we can prevent with the HPV vaccine. But it falls at the intersection of three cultural issues with strong political opposition — broad access to low-cost or free reproductive health care, access to vaccines for children, and sex education. via @19thnews.org
Cervical cancer could be eradicated. But not with Medicaid cuts and anti-vax politics.
The cancer has a known path of prevention, but that also means it falls at the intersection of cultural issues that are facing strong political opposition.

Tish James, Fani Willis and Lisa Cook are all Black women who rose to the top of their field. Trump and his allies have regularly tried to undermine the authority of women of color by attributing their positions to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts. From Mariel Padilla for @19thnews.org

People are starving in Myanmar where the United Nations estimates 40% need humanitarian assistance and which once counted the U.S. as its largest humanitarian donor. Now, in Asia, it has become the epicenter of the suffering unleashed upon the world’s most vulnerable by Trump’s dismantling of USAID.

Is it now the administration’s position that the U.S. military does not observe or adhere to the laws of war?

There is no “gender quota, goal or ceiling”, as established by law in 1994. In fact, it was the opposite for years when there was a cap on how many women could be allowed in certain roles (Women could only account for 2% or less among generals and admirals in the force before 1967). @19thnews.org
