The Julian Cope song that first caught my attention is this epic which has basically an 8 minute long guitar solo going on in the background. Love it.

We both felt motivated to understand close reading better, to make the clearest, strongest, case we could for it, and to do it together every step of the way. It's been a huge gift to think with Johanna in the making of this book, which we now offer to the world. press.princeton.edu/books/paperb...

Was excited to have an eleventh hour guaranteed addition to my favorite music of 2025, but it's not actually out until January. Anyway, this is an unbeatable, heady lineup and I can't wait to hear the whole thing.

I drafted a list of favorite records of the year, almost entirely ambient and/or abstract. There are a few hip-hop albums, too, by Earl Sweatshirt; Tyler, the Creator (aka Tyler who makes you use semicolons in lists like this); Little Simz; Aesop Rock. Any recommendations along those lines? Thanks.

Reminder that you can and should study Supercollider with me.
I've been giving lessons in Supercollider lately, and I invite anyone who's interested, beginner, intermediate, advanced, to try a few with me. Sliding scale, remote or in person where feasible, flexible schedule. Maybe you're in one of these positions:

While in Tulsa this summer, I visited the Bob Dylan Archives and listened to four never-heard tapes from Bob's Bay Area concerts in 64 and 65. Today I share the story of how these tapes came to exist—and came to be discovered in a basement 60 years later.
