I held the first autism advisory meeting today. A group of 5 young people and me. They were engaged and invested in my research. They gave me so much to think about. What a privilege it was to discuss ideas for data collection and research qu with them. They’ve made my PhD so much more meaningful

Never aim for outstanding all of the time, I always said I teach an outstanding lesson 5% of the time. I also teach a really shocking lesson 5% of the time. The rest of the time I’m teaching good lessons, and that’s ok.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

I applied for a fully funded PhD. Even though the £20k student ship sounds small, I’m only a couple of 00£ a month worse off - no tax, ni, student loan, pension payments. I was 4 days a week, ups 2 and co-head of dept
