Character questions are in general a second priority, but I do think the story makes it odd for Wilson to be positioning herself as working class.

She dropped out of Oxford to avoid careerism - the typical working class experience is not voluntarily choosing to forego a lucrative career!

This story is interesting. I feel like the money from her parents probably should have been the headline, given that Wilson is 43.

Feelings here are nuanced, on one hand I do think grandparents really should be helping w/ young kids, but her husband doesn't have a job? Why do they need childcare?

Getting into the overtime question probably also requires a discussion of like, traditional flexible vacation versus the inflexible bulk teachers get, and how to value that wrt an annual salary.

Probably just need to make sure we’re not doing apples to oranges. Unsure if the $118k figure includes like, de facto required bonuses.

Probably easiest to compare the $75k fig to whatever officers actually essentially always get.

Oh yeah, not trying to imply that teacher salaries are commensurate with officer salaries. Officer salaries are obviously considerably higher.

Ofc SPD doesn’t actually hire recent HS grads (20.5 age min) but if we’re considering that, SPS also prefers masters degrees.

Shame that some of the other NC reductions have passed, but the Wedgwood and Bryant amendments were also just pitifully poor process. There was not even a veneer of a justification.

Very glad to see them fail today.

It is explicitly in your best interest to not pay the fare. Generally, we shouldn't be building systems that encourage normal people to engage in anti-social behavior. Their best interest should be to follow the rules!

The way the system currently works is that you're punished for following the rules. The system *benefits* people who engage in anti-social behavior.

If you want free fares - make that case to voters. Don't create a system that de facto encourages breaking the law through nonexistent enforcement.

If we want to use fare gates to guarantee that enforcement is blind, that totally makes sense. It's the same reason why we should have more traffic cameras.

If you just don't want to enforce the fares, just get rid of the fare enforcement division. It's a waste of money.

Yup. It's not even that we have too little staff or such, but that we've explicitly chosen to have our staff not enforce the rules. In Germany, if you get caught having not paid, you get a fine.

Why even waste money on fare enforcement staff if those staff can't actually enforce anything?

Anyone familiar with Bryant knows that the Ronald McDonald House serves families whose children are being treated at Children's Hospital, just down the road.

OPCD's proposal protects that service, and I think that was the right choice.

The Comprehensive Plan is a difficult agenda item for all parties involved. Unfortunately, Councilmember Rivera's Amendment for the Bryant NC, #39, misses the mark.

This amendment removes parcels with already-existing apartment buildings, and replaces those parcels with the Ronald McDonald House.

If I recall correctly, the primary reason being cited currently for implementing P7 now rather than doing an extension is to stimulate the construction industry (as the P7 proposal is more stimulatory).

I mean, on the margin, we should absolutely expect uptake to go down if rents are revised down. It would make the program less lucrative!
