I should start posting songs from whichever band I'm wearing a shirt of, so here's Ulthar's Cosmovore, Lovecraftian blackened death metal from VA. Chaotic but with good riffs that aren't just mindless technicality that death metal can kind of fall into.

She gets all the flowers. I mean ALL of them. If we see her, we immediately have to give her flowers.

Cool story my city’s No Kings protest is in the same central gathering place in the middle of my city where hundreds of protests including the George Floyd protests happened.

Your town just sounds like it sucks ass
my local event [no kings protest] is happening in front of a dead shopping mall on a street on which people go flying by at 40mph.

CLAMP was the best. I reread Magic Knight Rayearth a while back and it was as great as I remember, and recently found a hardback omnibus of Chobits I couldn’t say no to.

The only individual thing me and my wife do (and have since we got married almost a decade ago) is we give ourselves a little 'allowance' each month that we can do whatever with, since pretty much everything is shared. It lets us do things like get each other gifts without the other knowing

I don't get it at all. It all goes to the same place! If my wife made more than me I'd be thrilled!

This was the hallmark of annoying course marketers well before the LLMs got big too

That's pretty much the mix I'd use it for too, since most of my pipeline comes from my network and I'm only consulting halftime right now, but I'd like to have something more sturdy in place regardless.

Today I'm wearing a shirt from Final Gasp, just incredible deathrock from Boston. I listen to them nonstop this time of year despite how much their music makes me feel feelings, which I try to avoid.

I'd sleep in solitude

Yeah, most companies are still building around the big models (the whole agent explosion is working like this) but the difference is they’re actually building something unique around the model, like other applications do with any other core API. Back then? You were lucky if there was an innovation

Oooh I might need to check them out, I have a homegrown system in Tana that I don’t really love and haven’t found a good consulting focused one that scratches my itch. Looks like we do similar consulting work too.

A lot of these genAI startups then were actual wrappers that people still complain about, and good riddance to those. People were making companies around prompt engineering and maybe some piss-poor fine-tuning. I’d be surprised to see that crop back up if inference prices crash.

And considering the panic when DeepSeek first came out, it's a paper tiger dogma

"they've always been like this" is always a tempting savvy take but it is just not true that Republican staffers were 100 percent open Nazis back in 2004, or hell even 2014. they just weren't
michaelcaley.bsky.social
there have been a lot of responses to this arguing that young Republicans were motivated by such feelings but didn't express them openly

and I think a crucial lesson of the Trump era is that there is great value in people not expressing these things openly! that's a big and decisive change!
amandamarcotte.bsky.social
For those tempted to say Young Republicans have always been this way, they really have not. When I worked on campus and did bipartisan college events after, they were very much not like this.

That’s why groups like YCT and eventually TPUSA formed — because Young Republicans weren’t radical enough.

I’d bet big architectural changes (currently still being investigated in the literature and a number of private companies) will bring us back to general models…if those techniques end up working.

correct

i’ve been saying this for a couple months. RL is driving towards specialization

my hunch is it’s temporary and something will shift again back towards generalization, but for now.. buckle up!

@ClementDelangue

Am I wrong in sensing a paradigm shift in Al?
Feels like we're moving from a world obsessed with generalist LLM APls to one where more and more companies are training, optimizing, and running their own models built on open source (especially smaller, specialized ones)
Some validating signs just in the past few weeks:
- @karpathy released nanochat to train models in just a few lines of code
- @thinkymachines launched a fine-tuning product
- rising popularity of @vllm_project, @sgl_project, @PrimeIntellect, Loras, trl,...
- 1M new repos on HF in the past 90 days (including the first open-source LLMs from @OpenAI)
And now, @nvidia just announced DGX Spark, powerful enough for everyone to fine-tune their own models at home.

The options I see are either a non-plant protein that you can tolerate (egg or beef), experimenting with very pure whey isolate (these are typically used to avoid dairy allergies), or stop worrying and love the lead (a lot of these levels are well below safe exposures, even over time)
lathrys.at
even multiple a day really doesn’t matter or register on the scale of measurable health impacts for an adult, details in thread

more context for people on the consumer reports lead/protein thing, from:

Flannery B, Middleton K, Updated interim reference levels for dietary lead to support FDA's Closer to Zero action plan, Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, Volume 133, 2022, 105202, ISSN 0273-2300, doi.org/10.1016/j.yr...

I mostly brought it up because your post seems to imply that it would be ok if it were just “meatheads and frat bros” consuming lead, but I think people should all be able to have lead-free supplements for whatever need or want they have, but the problem is that it’s all in our soil so plants eat it
