Lake Simcoe never disappoints- lots of prey fish to see with our echosounder tonight. #LakeSimcoe

Beautiful morning to be out pinging in Parry Sound (Georgian Bay, Lake Huron).

Many reasons why the feds need to keep science staff. Invasive species & water know no boundaries. The quagga mussel is in at least 17 states & Canada. There needs to be strong cooperative programs & research to deal with invasives.

Quadrillions of invasive mussels are damaging the Great Lakes, documentary shows
Since the late 1990s, the lake whitefish population has declined as much as 80 percent in parts of the Great Lakes. The culprit is a tiny invasive species called the quagga mussel.

Fishing in the Viking era did not affect the Icelandic cod population, but foreign markets in the 14th century changed everything.
