Interesting! I guess they must have created a long list first based on the applications, then choosing at random from that?

Thanks! Yes, just finding it hard right now, with so many demands on my time, to prioritise things like this. Congrats on the Ivors nom btw! 🎉

How do you motivate yourself to put the time and effort into applying for artist schemes when the likelihood of being successful is so low? Just looking at one now, but last year 450 people applied for 10 awards...

Right. Choir/classical music nerds, this is for you. Everyone else, you’re dismissed.

A very deep cut: Do any of you know of a recording of Haydn’s Creation that uses as the text the Michael Pilkington Novello edition (i.e New Novello, not old Novello). For the life of me I cannot find one.

Listening back and realising you ruined your first take of a fast passage because your hand is cold and your rings are clicking together 😂 Rings now OFF.

Blast from the past! I read this decades ago and loved it 😍

That's exactly what I thought when I heard this announcement. It's meaningless! English A-Level?! It's a complex exam for people who are totally fluent in the actual language - not a practical language test.

It always feels so weird when it comes to George Gershwin copyright - the fact that he died in the 30s but Ira G died in the 80s, so anything they wrote together will be in copyright for very much longer. Plus all the legal shenanigans of the Gershwin estate...

Another great example of AI Overview getting very confused (by an admittedly complex question, but still - don't believe 'em, folks!)
No, "Summertime" by George Gershwin is still under copyright in the UK, as it's protected for 70 years after the composer's death. George Gershwin died in 1937, so his music will not enter the public domain until January 1, 2031. While his music is public domain in some other countries like the EU, it is still protected by copyright in the UK.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Protein Powders and Shakes Contain High Levels of Lead - Consumer Reports
CR tests of 23 popular protein powders and shakes found that most contain high levels of lead.

Some composers spend all their money on synths. I, however, am finding it very hard to resist the temptation of a closing down sale bow auction...

Terry Pratchett's universe had a very similar book that was called Twerp's Peerage 😁 I can't see a reference to the real one thought thinking about it.

Considering how many young minds he moulded (ignoring Kemi Badenoch, who clearly missed the point) I'd say that's entirely true.

Unfortunately your hotel room no longer has an en suite bathroom.

Maybe a little bike ramp on the edge of the stairs?? Don't know if that would work... This is why we need more bike hangers 😥

I love our Tern Quickhaul cargo bike - it flies up Park Street, even with a 5yo child on the back!

Definitely worth raising with the council. You're right that they're an accessibility issue - for adapted cycles, cargo bikes and many normal bikes!

I so feel you with that. I saw it in the cinema and cried my eyes out at the end!

Yes, sometimes short is good! I really liked his soundtrack to the show Mrs America, and the lovely track I heard yesterday was from The Good Robot 😊

Yeah, immediate pregnancy insomnia tipped me off before any tests... 😴
