I had a great time! Highly recommend a visit to the small but perfectly formed Isokon Gallery - and as an added bonus it has a hugely knowledgeable and enthusiastic team of volunteers.
Join @artdecosocuk.bsky.social for their monthly online talk!

I think it would make for a really lovely You're Dead to Me podcast too 😁 Would love to introduce more people to the wonderful world of Art Deco!
Have only just seen this Greg - deeply flattered that one of the best public historians out there noticed my article and took the time to mention it! It's also lovely that it brought up personal memories ❤️

A contributor has had to withdraw from something I'm editing, late in the day. I'm looking for a sprightly 10,000 book historical words on the broad theme of 'consumers/consumption' and the period 1450-1650 (not necessarily all of it).
The next Art Deco Society UK online talk is on early home movies. Our expert is BFI curator Rosie Taylor and will include films from the period! Do join us!

‘Fragment of a Queen’s Face’

Timeless beauty from Ancient Egypt, c. 1390–1336 BC.

Yellow jasper exquisitely sculpted and polished to achieve a mirror-like surface. The identity of this royal woman is uncertain. The Met, photo by me.

as in, the building is a cube. I was definitely not clear then! 😂
Amazing - an actual oxo cube. I only hope it didn't crumble!
If you fancy boosting your historical festive knowledge, then my talk about Christmas in the 1920s and 1930s is now online and free to watch!
I loved researching and talking on this subject. ❤️

Something that always surprises me all over again about writing is how much bravery is required. Sending good vibes and solidarity to anyone else trying to write the conclusion to a piece of work that has taken many years to come together. Courage calls to courage everywhere! Your work matters! 🗃️

Intrigued by the People’s Bookshelf at the National Library of Latvia. Each book in the collection has been donated by a member of the public and is inscribed by its former owner, telling a personal story relating to the book.

London please help. I’m praying for a miracle, I’ve just got into the office and noticed my mums locket (in all these photos) that I wear every day has fallen off my neck on my walk in. My mum died when I was seven and her jewellery is most of what I have of her. I’m devastated
