I am saying that people angry at Wilson for his plan are not being rational. Waiting for social housing won't fix our unsheltered population because they need help from elsewhere first, and maybe always. Perfect example in the story about Dunphy's staffer today.
Housing experts like the one Wilson has put on leave are not behavioral health experts. Housing experts cannot help those with severe behavioral health problems.
I am saying social housing is not for solving the unsheltered homeless problem. People are conflating the Vienna trip with our mayor's plan. The councilors themselves reported this does not solve homelessness in Vienna, which has its own track of shelter and services.
Are people conflating social housing and homelessness? Social housing doesn't fix unsheltered homelessness, which is a behavioral health issue for most of this population. Vienna for example has a separate homeless shelter system and supports that is not part of their social housing.
Not to mention how you never think about the people affected by homeless camping. Anyhow I see this grift as just about as crappy as they right wing grift. Sad to watch.
Do you ever think how wildly irrational people railing against sheltering the unsheltered sound most of humanity? Talk about bad. These politics do not appeal to the majority bc they are manipulative and foolish. This is why Wilson won.
The Portland DSA chapter is sad and people who are drawn to it are not the sharpest tools nor are they welcoming people. This experiment will not end well I think.
As director of the portland housing bureau pursing out of scope work could be an issue for her. However it may be something entirely different-- personnel issues, who knows. We were told after the Vienna trip the actual fruition of this is at least a decade off or more anyhow.
Rent assistance is a county job though, not city. At the tax compression tutorial last week council was told we won't regain our tax base without getting people into shelter & treatment. This is the reality on the ground and Portland is stuck until it happens.
If NYC had the proportional amount of unsheltered people we do living outdoors and Zohran campaigned against sweeps he would not ahead in the polls. NYC has astronomical rent and that is the main reason he is ahead, due to his rent freeze proposal etc, which makes sense. Portland is affordable.
Liberalism lol. The Enlightenment which gave us a way of common thought based on reason. We're heading back to some sort of less literate dark age now.
and poor lighting doesn't help, nor does distracted or drunk/high driving, and lack of enforcement. A perfect storm! I'd never walk or bike in that area if I could help it.
